I was just released back to running after having my right Achilles tendon completely rupture in March 2010, and bought these as a "Welcome Back" shoe. I've run in Adrenaline 9s and 10s, so this was going to be interesting. I was really surprised at how comfortable and cushioned the Green Silence is. It felt very supportive and stable. The lacing system is kinda weird, but it works incredibly well. I'll definitely use these for tempo runs, intervals, and races. Once I'm back to full strength, I'd like to use these as an everyday running minimalist shoe----they are just that good. Great work Brooks!

My anticipation for these shoes were very high. They look great and very promising, and they are relatively cheap. And most of all - they are more or less ecological!
When I unpacked them, I was extremely surprised how lightweight they are. "These shoes must be a runner´s dream!"
Until I tried to put them on. Almost impossible. They are the right size, lengthwise, and the width is also good. But vertically, they seem to be designed for Donald Duck. My feet are quite average Swedish human feet. The upper quarter (where the laces are) of these shoes is so narrow, I can hardly get into them. This can be partly explained by the fact that the upper opens only on one side, not both, when you unlace the shoe.
So I am sadly disappointed with this aspect of the shoes. I get stuck halfway when putting them on, and only by great force can I get into them and tie the laces. Running is out of the question.

        Comments about Green Silence:

This is a fast and flexible racer. It responds well to your foot. Basically, it lets your foot do what it wants to do without getting in the way. Probably best for the more efficient serious runners, but also a great shoe for those wanting to transition slowly into a more "minimal" shoe.

Only mark against it is that the lacing is a little tricky.

        Comments about Green Silence:

Wow, again! This is now my 4th pair of Green Silences. I've done other reviews for them on here so this isn't new. This time I got the blue/silver(?), and they're just as good as the others. Would stay away from the green model though. The uppers on those are made of a different material and aren't "sock-like" as the other colors are. The R. McDonald, Blue/Yellow, Blue/Silver are made of a almost sponge upper/sock and are extremely comfortable with or without socks. Do go at least a half to full size larger then what you think you wear. Haven't tried the new minimal shoes that Brooks just came out with, and don't know if I will because truthfully I don't think shoes can get much better then the Green Silences. Once again Brooks designers, please come out with a desert combat boot like some of the other shoe companys have, I'd buy them in a heart beat, hell, I'll be your test dummy.

        Comments about Green Silence:

These are great shoes. Bought first pair and enjoyed them so much I now have three, and looking to buy another pair. They fit snug in toe length so buy 1/2 size up. Very low heel, not zero, but still low. Enough cushioning to absorb some impact. I run on average 15 miles every other day, and 2-3 miles on the other days, so I do put in some miles. Big drawback, is they do seem to wear quickly and since I don't like wearing socks with these they're starting to reek, and yes I have washed them. Honestly, best shoe and most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. Wish they'd make a combat boot for me that was 1/2 this comfortable. Recommended to friend...oh hell yeah, the wife has 2 pair now also, as well as friends because of me, and they all love them. Last thing, love the toe box width, plenty of room for toe splay.

The Green Silence has been my best shoe by far. I just ordered my 3rd. pair. They feel like a cozy slipper, yet are tough and responsive on any terrain. I wear these shoes for all of my runs on pavement and trail. I've ran as far as 31 miles on trails with them and I'm getting ready to put them to the test on a 50 mile trail run.
You've got to try these shoes!

Awesome shoe. This reviewer runs 1-2 mi. warm-up before interval or sprint workout, 2-3 days/wk. Had been running in Asics Gel Nimbus and Vibram 5 Fingers before this. - The perfect minimalist shoe. - Very light weight, awesome for distance and sprint / interval work. Low heel is perfect for strength training / posterior chain work (dead lifts - front and back squats etc.) Durability is a concern, premature wear and tear on sole after only 2 weeks of use. This reviewer runs / sprints on hot, hot black-top in Florida however so you be the judge. One piece upper wraps the foot nicely and lets the foot work like it should. Runs 1/2 sz. bigger than most other running shoes but your foot will use that space well. Will definitely get a second pair.

                Comments about Green Silence:

These shoes are every bit as good as the reviews suggest. Super lightweight, and a very unique cushioning that is ultra-comfortable without limiting feeling. The curved lacing system makes for a better custom fit, and there is a lot more room in the toebox compared to most other Brooks shoes. You can run all day in these babies, no problem!

The one downside is, for the black ones, they show dirt really easily, but I bought them for running, not job interviews so big whoop!

I have two pair in current rotation and 3 more pairs on my shelf.I do about 30 foot races a year. This is by far the best shoe I have ever had in my 40 years of running. It is awesome at any distance on any surface. If you are a woman try this shoe as it is unisex and fits much better than a woman's sized shoe.

As I have lowered to a minimalist style shoe I have found that this is the best race shoe for me up to marathon distance. The Green Silences also handle a lot of miles well in a week.

Very light weight and surprisingly comfortable for a race shoe. Would recommend to anyone trying to get into a lighter shoe or wanting to try less support.
