As a podiatrist and foot surgeon I have recommended this shoe to thousands of patients. Most are 40+ years of age and over weight and pronators. 99% of the time my patients tell me this is the most comfortable shoe they have ever worn! Obviously as a running shoe it cannot be worn by many all day. But if your feet hurt from your other shoe by the end of the day you will be blown away at the comfort. This shoe has the perfect combination of cushioning AND support for the person who weighs more than 175 lbs. For lighter folks Brooks has many other options. I have tried to find a better shoe for the past decade and have not been successful. I have not been compensated in any way for this review. This is just flat out my favorite shoe and a HUGE key tool in my practice. Good luck.

I have somewhat unusual feet. I am a size 15 2E, and wear orthotics. To put it another way, these were the only shoes the sales people were brave enough to recommend to me for exercise.

I have owned three pairs of them now, and the story is always the same; they break, and fast. Now I accept that as a large person who exercises regularly, that I am always going to place pretty strong demands on footwear; if it lasts 3 months, that's excellent in my opinion.

So far all three pairs of The Beast have met the same fate; the thin piece of rubber on the base of the shoe is torn open within a few days of use. I end up with an annoying piece of rubber flapping around, and getting caught on things as I run around. I spend more time trying various glues to reattach the rubber then I spend actually running in these shoes.

The other issue is with orthotic support. If you have half-length orthotics don't waste your time with these shoes. They are horrendously uncomfortable unless you go out and buy a pair of full-length orthotics. Then that just creates another issue; they stretch a outward near the tow and I forever adding pits of cut up innersoul to make them comfortable again. Too much hassle and annoyance.

These are a good shoe, but have some obvious design flaws which should be corrected.

        Comments about Beast:

I am a fairly good sized guy with a large foot. I'm about 275lbs 6' with a size 16 2E width (beast was a fitting name in more ways than one lol) and flat footed. Now like a lot of people with large feet we don't have many options for trying on shoes so I I had to buy these as an attempt to find a good shoe upon getting the beast the first time I was amazed at the stability and comfort they had. Since then I have recommended them and the store where I bought them (Get Fit) to many people

          Comments about Beast:

I am a firefighter and have to wear steel toe boots at work. When I get off duty, my old high quality shoes with inserts weren't doing the job anymore.

I was diagnosed with a heel spur about 3 months ago and been having increasingly worsening heel/foot pain. It was to the point I could not walk when getting out of bed and having to ice my foot nightly.

I read a lot of reviews on the BEAST and decided to go to my local running shoe specialist. I only intended to try them on and research online for the best price. I tried them on and walked out with them on my feet. AMAZING!!!

What a difference! I was using inserts for heel spurs before and have not used them since going to the BEAST. I still have discomfort but no shooting pain as I did before. If you have heel spurs and trying to decide on what to do BUY THE BEAST NOW!!!

At 6'5" and 270lbs. this shoe has been underneath me for over seven years. I have never had a pair fail me and I still have every pair I have ever owned. They end up on constuction projects, golf courses, auto restoration projects, training runs, gyms, hip replacement rehab, water sports and pouring asphalt driveways. Now that is a shoe!

I walk on concrete 8 hours a day and had foot problems. My Podiatrist recommended the Brooks shoe for control, arch and comfort combined with the Othodic I use.
I have worn the Beast by Brooks for 1 week and love the control and comfort they offer. I will wear only Brooks from now on.

                Comments about Beast:

Sore shins due to over pronation always derail me at some point during my fitness routine. I also have flat, wide feet. I have had ZERO problems with my shins, ankles or feet since I bought these shoes. Running far and eazy at almost 300 lbs for the first time in 24 years. Brooks is not a brand I have considered for years. They are expensive, but I am understanding the price difference between these and my previous brand from the goddess of victory. Advantage: Brooks

                    Comments about Beast:

The Beast continue to be the only shoe that I can wear without pain while running. I'm a marathon runner with completely flat feet, and these shoes have been a Godsend. I don't think I'd be running anything over 4 miles without them. The only reason I took a star off is that the 2012 model doesn't seem to be quite as perfect as the 2011 model. I'm not sure what changed, but I just seem to have a slight bit more pain with this model. IT is still leaps and bounds better than anything else I've used. But a word to Brooks, there's a reason the saying goes "If it ain't broke..."
