Brooks Running Rolls Out Run Signature Across the Globe

Intersection of Science and Experience Decodes Comfort and Empowers Runners

SEATTLE- April 15, 2016

Brooks Running Company leads the industry and runners into the future with Run Signature, a new fitting method that utilizes leading-edge technology to assess the way a runner’s body wants to run and recommends the right shoe to fit their run. Challenging the traditional approach, Run Signature is more holistic and individual, combining the biomechanics and desired experience of runners. Run Signature will premiere at the Brooks Running Booth at the John B. Hynes Convention Center in Boston beginning April 15 and the London ExCeL centre beginning April 20.

“At Brooks we believe the run can flat out change a day, a life, even the world, which is why we are always looking for ways to make the run better, faster, more comfortable and more enjoyable for runners,” said Anne Cavassa, Chief Customer Experience Officer. “Run Signature empowers the runner by providing them with individualized data that helps them choose the running experience they crave—whether on the road, track or trail—and the perfect shoe to match so they can get more out of every mile.”

Through Run Signature, Brooks empowers runners to choose the experience they want from their run, based on the data they gather about how their body moves: the company has unveiled new, more intuitive footwear categories that take into account running experiences and support. The new categories—Cushion, Energize, Connect and Speed—resonate with runners of all abilities around the world, making it easier for them to find a shoe that fits the biomechanics and experience of their run.

Following the launch in Boston and London, Run Signature will be available at all Brooks-sponsored events. The company is also kicking off a Run Signature Mobile Tour to reach more runners across the country. The tour will hit the road running in May, visiting key events across the country.

Run Signature is the result of years of research Brooks conducted in partnership with Professor Dr. Gert-Peter Brueggemann, Director of the Institute of Biomechanics and Orthopedics at the German Sport University of Cologne, and Prof. Dr. Joseph Hamill, Director of the Biomechanics Lab at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The team discovered that all runners, including those at the highest elite level, have their own unique way of running and that embracing their natural movement can keep them more comfortable, efficient and happier. Brooks is now bringing the science out of the lab with a custom Run Signature mobile application which analyzes data from key motion zones. By completing a squat and short run, the application identifies the degree of change as more force is applied to the body. The degree of motion signifies the level of support needed to keep the runner’s body in its preferred position.
