See full artist statement Artist statement This collection was designed to reflect a sense of movement, energy, diversity, unity, and community. I aimed to create dynamic illustrations that captured the spirit and energy of Black runners and the sport of running itself. To show movement, I incorporated dynamic lines and curves into the designs, which create a sense of flow and motion. These elements give the clothing a sense of forward momentum as if the runners are constantly moving forward. The shapes of the designs also represent energy and breaking through. Many pieces feature bold, angular shapes that convey a sense of strength and power. These shapes are meant to reflect the idea of breaking through physical, mental, or emotional barriers. The colors chosen for the collection also represent diversity, unity, and community. Bold, bright colors like purple, yellow, and orange represent different cultures and backgrounds. In contrast, colors like blue, black, and green create a sense of unity and togetherness. Finally, the silhouettes of the runners in the designs represent the past and present Black runners who have helped to pave the way for the sport. These silhouettes are a nod to the history of running and the vital role the Black running community has played in shaping the sport over the years. Overall, this collection is meant to inspire and empower runners of all ethnicities, levels, and backgrounds while also celebrating the rich history and culture of running.
