Are these waterproof?

Hi Michael! The Caldera 4 is not waterproof. If you're looking for a waterproofed Trail style, we recommend the Cascadia 15 GTX.

I wear a Cascadia 12 in size 12. I would like to have more length in the toe. Should I order a 12 or 12.5 in the Calderra 4?

Is the Caldera 4 OK on the road? I ran quite a bit on paved roads with my Caldera 3s (even a marathon), but the Caldera 4 looks looks more like cleats and has less surface space for roads. Also, do they fit the same?

Hi Paul! The Caldera 4 fits and performs similar to the Caldera 3. If you had great success with the Caldera 3 on the road, we expect the same for the Caldera 4.

Does the shoe cause your feet to roll? Prefer to run more flat.

These do not cause your feet to roll. My glycerines would roll on a trail, but these are flat all the time. It is almost impossible to roll due to their design.

I normally wear asr trail shoes. Which shoes do you recommend in their place?Thanks Jenks

Hi Andy! If you normally wear the ASR trail shoes, the closest style would be the Cascadia 15. The Cascadia 15 has our Pivot Post System that provides a stable platform to adapt to any terrain.

I normally wear a size 9.5 or 10. I got these as a gift with size 10.5. With socks, it does feel snug, with a little gap in the back. Do you think this should be okay or should I exchange it for a size 10 (or 9.5)?

Could you give indications on which gaiters are compatible with the Caldera 4, please? I have a hard time finding gaiters that are compatible with the velcro at the back and hook system at the front. Thanks and stay healthy!

I've been using Altra gators for about 4 years now. They work in the Caldera's and Cascadia's hook/velcro design.

What is the Velcro on the heel for?

It allows for an easy trail running gaiter attachment.

Does the 4 have the same elastic tongue as the 3?

The tongue package is not technically elastic but it does have good movement to go along with its solid structure. The tongue on the Caldera 4 is a full Ariaprene foam package, the tongue mesh, and tongue lining are laminated together on either side of the thin Ariaprene foam material. The same style tongue used on other trail models, like the Cascadia 14, PureGrit 8, and early Caldera’s.

Why did the Caldera 4 gain so much weight compared to the 3 — from 9.3 to 10 oz.?

Based on runner insights the new Caldera 4 needed a reconfigured midsole and outsole to help better adapt to the ground underneath and provide a more stable ride over changing terrain. This, as well as the newly engineered mesh for strategically placed breathability, came with an additional .07 oz added to the shoe.

Does the Caldera 4 have a wider fit than the Caldera 3? Thanks!

The Caldera 4 is going to feel more snug and secure around the whole foot though it will have more room in the toe-box than the Caldera 3.

which models come in wide? Will the Caldera ever be available in wide? Have gone through two pairs of the Beast and am looking for a different look. thanks
