Men's PureGrit 3

$120.00

Style #110180

Pick a line, trust your feet and run absolutely wild. It’s as simple as that in the completely redesigned PureGrit 3 trail running shoe for men. Taking a cue from the mad grip of climbing shoes, this lightweight runner connects you to the terrain as it responds and protects you from its tricky elements. An outsole peppered with hex lugs delivers maximum grip, while the propulsion plate provides a responsive toe-off and protects your foot from rocks and roots on the trail. A toe guard provides protection and added traction when the trail gets steep.

Just like our core line, we hold PureProject to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction and fewer materials, runners should generally expect shoes from the PureProject line to last approximately 250-300 miles.

Rounded Heel

What is it?

“Rounded Heel” is just a fancy name that we like to use for the rounded and reduced heel on our shoes. The slight curvature in the heel vastly improves the alignment of your body, encouraging a more efficient stride.

How does it work?

It’s really quite simple. The curvature in the heel works to align the body by shifting the contact point forward. As you hit the ground there is a greater clearance distance under the middle of your heel, which aligns force through the center of your ankle, thus reducing internal stress on your body.

I've put about 100 miles on my pair so far on several trail surfaces and in both wet and dry conditions. Overall, I think it's a nice 'update' from the Grit 2. (It's a completely different shoe, so feels silly calling it an update.)

Pros:
1. Toe guard. Nice to have that little bit extra bit of protection.
2. Tread is better than Grit 1 and 2 on soft trail. Much better.
3. Rock shield on forefoot is a nice addition.
4. Comfortable and cozy fit right out of the box.

Cons:
1. No wrap-around/burrito tongue like the 2 had (which was fantastic). Back to a free-floating tongue that just falls down to the outside of my foot.
2. Still quite a bit heavier than the Grit 1 (but same weight as Grit 2).

Overall:
Very good traction in soft and wet conditions. Toe guard and rock plate give added confidence that was missing in previous versions. I wish it was in the weight range of the Grit 1, but I still think it's a great lighter-weight alternative to the Cascadia.

Fitted many trail shoes and the Pure Grit 3 was by far the most comfortable.

However, after only 6 miles of trail, many of the lugs had big chunks missing and other were starting to come loose. I am a light guy and usually get very good milage out of shoes.

My girlfriend ran the exact same routes in a different brand which did not show any wear as extreme as on the Brooks.

For an expensive shoe marketed towards trail running I was expecting them to last much longer.

Also, even with the laces very tightly tied, the tongue shifts to one side leaving the laces rubbing bare against ones sock which is very uncomfortable.

These will have to go back to store.

    Comments about PureGrit 3:

I really wanted to leave a review on this product as I have been using the product now for about a month consistently. Gotta say I love these trail beaters. I run about 4-5 half marathons/year and a 30K. I'd love to run more but my professional schedule does not permit that lifestyle...yet. A good portion of my training involves running trails, specifically a lake not far from me. I have been serious about running for about two years and I just turned 41yo. They are light and I definitely do not feel the fatigue as the miles rack up during a run like my Transcends. I feel that the hexagon cleats give me more traction on steep grainy hills. This is the first shoe with the rounded heel and I think that has helped improve my stride into a more efficient stride. My wife who is a more serious runner has even noticed my stride seems more relaxed and improved. I have read complaints about the tongue sliding over to the left constantly...have not had that issue at all. I read prior to buying them that someone double knots their laces and that fixed the issue...doesn't everyone double knot?! In closing this is a rugged, light shoe that is made for running hard packed trails. Soft enough to cushion the pounding while giving you a good feel for the terrain and encouraging a better stride.

    Comments about PureGrit 3:

I ran across the Presidential Mts in NH 2x - super slick rock, around Lake Tahoe on the Tahoe Rim trail- all kinds of varied terrain, on the Kalalau Trail, Kauai, Hawaii-- wet- and a bunch of times around the Syncline Trail in Canyonlands-- steep rugged terrain- in and among regular training running on singletrack in Connecticut...

...In my first pair, and just reordered. These shoes are great, and handle sweet in all kinds of terrain except maybe the very slick. I have no worries gassing it all out on steep technical downhill, or anywhere.

I do wish the uppers weren't so porous to sand and dirt, and thorns.

This one feels so close to the ground, and if you like that you will probably like this one. I've had no problems with the tread, though I am running on dirt trails with minimal rocks. Currently it's winter and I used them at 10 degrees F. Still felt great.
