DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).
  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

I've been a devoted fan of the Andrenaline GTS 11th edition. I haven't been happy with the successors. The 12th, 13th and 14th edition did not work for me at all. They all felt like completely different shoes. What I loved about the 11 (lightweight, excellent arch support, hugged my foot perfectly, crash pad was firm and responded well) was not there in the 12, 13 and 14s. I was delighted to find that the 15s felt similar to the 11s. I did notice that the 15s ran a bit short. I wear a size 10 but needed to bump up a 1/2 size in the new 15s. (My big toe was touching the top and side of the size 10). Unfortunately with the 1/2 size bigger there's now a bit of excess shoe that buckles when I pull the laces tight around the toe area. It didn't seem to cause any problems during my run though. Overall, they feel and ride very much like the glorious 11th edition :-) I'm very happy. I'll buy a second pair for sure!

I have been running in this shoe for over a decade! I buy about 3 pair a year and have felt so grateful that the updates always felt the same. I bought my first pair of the 2015s to train for the Boston Marathon and felt a noticeable difference. This shoes is tighter, and stiff and feels small. I gave it over 200 miles even after I felt some discomfort on a tendon in my right foot. Hoping it was just "that pair" i ordered a second pair when this shoe was close to hitting its max mileage with hopes that the pair i got was just a dud. I was having some severe pain in a speed work session with my first pair of 2015's so i pulled the new pair from the box and the pain stayed. I had an old pair of 2014's around so i finished my workout in those. I am returning my 2nd pair of 2015's and ordered 6 pair of the 2014's to get me through this year and part of next year hoping for a good update for 2016 or 2017 when i run out of the 2014s. I cannot even wear my worn out 2015's for looks because they just hurt my foot too bad :( I could be the shape of my foot not working with the changes made for the 2015 update…but i wish that you would just keep the shoe the same each year. I LOVE the colors though. And was very happy to find the 2014 in pink (although i love the teal more) when I found them at a discount price. i can run happy an cute for the next 2 years hoping for a good update in 2016 and 2017 where you take them back to where they were.

Good for walking. I'm not a runner, but they feel as if they would be suitable for running as well. In the pros and cons, I couldn't really say good arch support or poor arch support. Really just average in that regard. Overall they feel comfortable and fit well, so I would buy them again.

I get Adrenaline GTS for the pronation control. After tearing a posterior tibia tendon, keeping my arch in place on that foot is a must or else I have problems walking. My only complaint - provide some conservative colors. I wear these daily with everything. The last thing I want is neon.

                Comments about Adrenaline GTS 15:

I am a fitness instructor and I've been buying Brooks Adrenalines for about 6 years now. I had 2 pair of the GTS-15 and both were worn out much quicker than any other pair I've owed. The first pair, part of the fabric had a hole on the side after 2 weeks. Returned that pair to the store for replacement...then sole started to come unglued a few months later! I then purchased a pair in January from this site and had the same problem with the fabric getting a hole in it! Now, it looks like my big toe could come thru the top at any time! I know the 2nd pair is 6 mos old, but I've easily gotten 8-9 months out of previous models. I sure hope the next model is a little more durable or I'm gonna have to find another brand.

Overall, I am a big fan of this shoe. I would recommend trying it on if you have a wider foot. After 100 miles or so, the decorative band on the toe box started putting some pressure on my exterior, left metatarsal which caused some pain when I ran. I don't think this is a common issue, but the band just happened to hit that exact spot on my foot so I had to order a pair of Ghosts that doesn't have it.

BEFORE THIS MODEL, this WAS the best shoe out there. I went through 5-6 pairs a year and many model changes PRIOR TO THIS MODEL and they were always out of the box ready for action and reliable. Why Brooks would make the changes they did in the 15 and 16 is hard to understand. The 15 ran significantly short and narrow. The short part seems to be corrected, for the most part, in the 16 but the 16 is still too narrow in the ball of the foot and toes. One would hope they could get it right again on the 17 but I'm not counting on it. They ruined about the best thing out there. I'm back on the hunt for a good shoe and really unhappy with Brooks!! (Accidentally associated review with the Men's on first try.)

                    Comments about Adrenaline GTS 15:

I've been running in Adrenalines since the GTS 12 because they offer excellent support for my low arches. Recently I bought my 2nd pair of the GTS 15 with high expectations since I'm recovering from an ankle injury. I've used them for about 2 weeks, walking/running less than 2 miles each time and they're already beginning to fray on the instep. They were not as durable as I'd hoped but they do offer good support.
