Designed from the ground up, the Cascadia 7 defines what a trail shoe should be: rugged without sacrificing runnability. Infused with Brooks technology and a bit of insight from ultrarunner Scott Jurek, this amazing piece of equipment features an asymmetric upper that anatomically wraps the foot with conforming materials, a ballistic rock shield and toe protector for dicey terrain, and four-point pivot posts that act like a suspension system for your feet. Top it off with an intuitive lug pattern and this trailblazer is ready to tackle even the toughest terrain.

These shoes came in 2 days before a 50-K trail run. Knowing you don't ever wear shoes right out of the box for a race, I decided to wear these anyway because my old Cascadias were ready for retirement, having run a 50-mile, 50-K and numerous training runs up to 30 miles. I did this because my last 2 pairs of Cascadias were problem free from the start so I had confidence. These are the best rendition of the shoe ever. I life the way the laces follow the curve of your foot. These are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. The 50-K I did had rugged limestone outcroppings, pavement, loose flint rocks, hard clay surface and deep mud, and these shoes handled all of it. I was one of the few who did not go down in the mud. After the race I had no foot issues, no blisters, no black toes despite being undertrained for the race. Hats off to Brooks for another classic! One issue I have with all Brooks shoes is the laces like to come undone but you can solve this by double knotting.

I have a love/hate relationship with these. One minute I love them, the next I hate them. Sometimes they feel stable, sometimes they feel like a rolled ankle waiting to happen. Interestingly enough, they feel more stable on rougher terrain than on the easy stuff. I feel like I have to keep an eye on where I am placing my foot more with these shoes than others I have run in. I feel the heel is a little sloppy and I have a 'normal' foot. I really have to keep from the second eyelet up pretty tight. There is just something that I can't put my finger on about the fit. And when you look at the heel, you would figure they would be a lot more stable than they actually are. I mainly hate them at the beginning of a run and/or hike and then it turns into a love in the middle, and then back to hate at the end. I usually buy my shoes at [@] just in case they don't work out, but I bought these at a true running store with that wonderful "if you wear them outside, they are yours" return policy. Of course less than 3 hours after buying them, I was getting them dirty. So I am stuck with them. I'm hoping after another 100 miles or so (they have around 100 right now) they will somehow turn into the amazing shoes that the Cascadia 4's were.

My Third pair in the cascadia line! Continue to improve over time. Very durable especially in the rocky rough conditions of south texas hill country. Have made it through 2 Ultras and still have plenty of sole left ! Only con Heavy !! But for a long training run on the trails look no further !!

I work in a shoe store, the cascadia was my first true trail shoe. up till that point I had been trail running with regular road shoes. The Brooks cascadia is an AMAZING shoe. although it doesn't have a ton of arch support, since it's just a neutral shoe, it still has just enough support but is still very flexible. These shoes give excelent response from the ground. I enjoy wearing it even when i'm not running. very stylish and unique. well done brooks.

I mainly use the Cascadia 7s on single track trails/fire roads in the hills and mountains.

I have found the reworking of the laces takes the pressure off my forefoot - thank you. I also liked the Cascadia's lowered cut around the ankle...I like the mobility of the ankle/lower leg. I know this could be hazardous to some, specifically if weak ankles/sprains are an issue. The cushioning is more than enough. Colors are great...I have the green pair. I haven't had any fit issues...overall the shoe fits perfect in the forefoot and the heel.

Improvements - I've waited for about three months to reflect on these shoes. I have probably 150 miles on the Cascadias. I appreciate the cushioning, but I think it's a bit too much. The shoe feels too stiff at times and not responsive enough. I remember the Cascadia 3s...and I loved the flexibility in the cushioning on the Cascadia 3s. I think if there was more flexibility/mobility for the foot to bend it would be a winner. A previous comment mentioned the issues with the heel, I think the heel is too bulky, which for me might by the main design issue. The forefoot is fine, but I feel I'm pulling my back heel with every step. I noticed that the heel width/cushioning has been expanded in comparison to the Cascadia 4s...this change works well to offset the possible ankle issues brought about by the lower shoe cut around the ankle. I would keep the lower ankle cut, but trim the heel and possibly forefoot width. I would suggest shaving a 1/2 to 3/4 inch off the width and dropping the heel to toe ratio to atleast 8mm...I'd buy a Cascadia version with the 4mm heel to toe drop. I think shifting the heel to toe drop would be a good call on a Cascadia version. The last issue is the tread...overall traction is good, but there have been times the shoes pile on the mud and the mud just won't come off...which makes running an issue on a 15-20 mile run in the mountains. I don't know if it's the design of the tread, but I've never had this happen with past versions of the Cascadia or past trail shoes.

I've been an endurance runner for 35+ years (trails, endurance relays, marathons, triathlons) and I've worn a lot of shoes, different brands/models, but never Brooks. I was looking for a new pair of trail shoes last week and the saleswoman recommended the Cascades. I went with her recommendation and I'm glad I did. Sizing in the store was a little tricky; they felt a tad too big. But, I took them out for an inaugural run early this morning: an 8-mile, hilly, single-track trail in dense forest, with lots of roots and rocks and in wet weather conditions. The shoes felt good (not too big), hugged the trail with no slippage and gave me strong support. The shoe's performance was outstanding. I think anyone who runs trails will be happy with these shoes. I am.

I love this shoe but would love to see it in a "0 drop " model.
Now that i've worn Altra Lone Peaks it is hard to run in a shoe that has any heel height.
I find i like "0 drop" as it gives me full range of motion with my fore foot strike and reduces impact.
The Cascadia 7 would be the perfect trail running shoe for all distances if it had a protective "0 drop" outsole.

I seem less and less satisfied with each new Cascadia model and I've worn them from the beginning. I had high hopes for the 7 after the 6. Loved the 5 but the cushion died prematurely. I have ~ 30 miles on these, mostly trails with a little asphalt thrown in, and my feet are killing me. The forefoot is too narrow (I'm slightly wider than standard D) and very hard and for me, not responsive (I go ~ 6'4", 225#). Feels like I'm running on wood planks. The heel is looser than in the past and like the previous reviewer, I'm really locking it down to prevent slipping. The 7 also feels more stable and I've developed pain on the outside of my foot. Also like a previous reviewer, I wanted these early and got them from a supplier that will not take back shoes worn outside. Oh well, maybe they'll make a good light hiker.
