Best Brooks running shoes for Pronation
Biomechanics are as unique and varied as fingerprints. We all have our own quirks and patterns, and no two runners are exactly alike. It’s important to find a shoe that will accommodate your individual needs. And while no two runners are the same, many runners will share certain traits in common. One of those traits is called pronation.
What is pronation?
Pronation is a perfectly normal aspect of human biomechanics. Most of us will pronate to some degree during our strides. When the foot lands, the arch tends to elongate and lean inward somewhat. This is the body’s way of providing natural cushioning and shock absorption. For some folks, though, that pronation deviates a little too far from their bodies preferred motion pathway when they start running. This can lead to problems or potential injury if left unaddressed.
How do I know if I overpronate?
Overpronation can lead to a variety of problems such as pain in the feet, ankles, or knees. Folks who overpronate may be prone to issues in these areas and your first line of defense is going to be your footwear. Support shoes (often called “Stability” shoes), offer a protective element to help guide your legs and feet safely through your gait cycle. In Brooks Shoes, that element is something we call our GuideRails holistic support system.
What shoes are best for overpronation?
The best shoes for overpronation are the shoes we offer amongst our Support category. There are several to choose from and it all depends on what experience you would like out of your run. Do you want a lot of soft cushioning on your run? You should check out the Glycerin GTS or the Adrenaline GTS! Are you looking for something a bit snappier and light on your feet? Try the Launch GTS or the Levitate GTS. For folks who are prone to severe overpronation, shoes in our Max Support category will be best. The Beast ‘20 for men and Ariel ‘20 for women will offer even more support without sacrificing that plush cushioning underfoot.
