The Story of the Race

Josh hit the lead with 200 metres to go, which was rebuffed by pre-race favourite Ingebrigtsen with both runners neck and neck as they entered the last 100 metres. Kerr pulled away over the last 50 metres to take the victory.

“I knew I was capable of a world championship gold medal and with 50m to go I kind of broke him. It was just about holding form at that point. Quick cadence.”

You have to Believe

“You have to believe. When I was standing on that start line and if you watch the video back, I kept saying to myself: it’s my turn, it's my turn.”

“It’s been a long time coming. It's quite an overwhelming experience. I’m so proud of myself. I’m so proud of my team and my family. They got me here.”

Lightning Round

How did you start running?

I started at a summer camp. I did as many sports as I could. Then other sports just kept dropping off and I was left with just running.

Which athletes or influential people do you look up to?

My brother, who is a professional rugby player. He has had so many injury problems that he never takes any game time for granted, it reminds me to do the same.

In his own words

Take a look inside Josh's life as a pro runner. Spoiler alert: there's a lot of running footage.
