Frequently asked questions
Are lightweight running shoes better for running?
Sven: Lightweight running shoes aren’t necessarily better, they’re different. Designed for speed and agility, they’re a great complement to your cushioned running shoes. Whether you're chasing a personal best on race day or pushing the pace during interval training, lightweight shoes can help you move faster with less effort. We offer a range of lightweight and speed-focused shoes to match your goals and running style:
- Hyperion: Lightweight and feels like a natural ride.
- Hyperion Max: Features our ultra-responsive DNA Gold cushioning and a SpeedVault plate for added propulsion.
- Hyperion Elite: Engineered for race day, with DNA Gold 100% PEBA cushioning and a SpeedVault Race+ carbon plate for maximum energy return.
- And to not forget the Launch: A versatile entry point shoe into speed training—light, responsive, and perfect for everyday fast runs.
Not every runner prefers or benefits from plated shoes—biomechanics and personal feel matter. Some runners thrive with the added propulsion, while others prefer a more natural ride. Our Hyperion and Launch series offer a variety of constructions, so you can find the right fit for your stride.
What weight is a good lightweight running shoe?
Sven: It’s not just about weight—it’s about what’s inside. The best lightweight shoe for you depends on how you train, how you race, and how your body moves. A few extra grams might mean a lot more propulsion, stability, or energy return. The Hyperion Max for example, has more weight than a Launch, but it has a totally different construction with the plate and two combined foams. Most (competitive) runners do not only look at the weight, it's more than that.
What are the benefits of a lightweight running shoe?
Sven: The right lightweight running shoe doesn’t just feel fast, it helps you run faster. For some runners, shoes with a plate construction offer a huge advantage. Combined with our high-energy DNA Gold cushioning, the plate returns up to 90% of the energy you put in—helping you hit new speeds and chase personal bests. But it’s not all about plates. Our latest DNA Flash V2 foam delivers a responsive, propulsive ride even in non-plated models—so you get benefits no matter your preference. The Brooks speed running shoes are fast, but they look even faster. Choose your weapon. ;)
