What are trail running shoes?

Trail running shoes offer more traction and protection on the trails compared to road running shoes. You'll notice a more lugged, grippy outsole material as well as a more structured outsole to protect your feet from any jagged roots or rocks.

Can you use trail running shoes on the road?

Trail running shoes have great traction with their tacky outsole and deep lugs, which you will likely not need on the road. It might not feel as comfortable as your road running shoes, as they often have a smooth outsole and cushioned/supportive midsole. That doesn't mean you can't take your trail running shoes to the road, but it might not feel as soft and the lugs might wear down a bit faster.
