Clayton was kampioen op de 10.000 meter op BYU en behaalde een record van 2:08:00 tijdens de Chicago marathon 2023. Hij eindigde als tweede bij de Amerikaanse Olympische marathonkwalificaties en verzekerde zich zo van een plek in het Parijse team van 2024, waar hij in de top 10 eindigde.
