For over a decade, Coach Gilkes has inspired the next generation of runners at State College Area High School. From one nominator, it’s so evident that Coach Gilkes not only knows how to connect with the individual athlete, but can mobilize and inspire the entire team, “He always knew how to make me feel wanted and needed. Artie is the MOST dedicated coach ever. Despite the size of our team, Artie got to personally know all 200+ track and field athletes on the team. Artie really cares about each of his athletes and knows how to motivate each one of us. He truly has a way with words. Not only does Artie produce both girl and boy State Championship medalists, champions, all-Americans, school record-holders, and nationally ranked athletes, he also makes us into better people. Artie has left the most positive and loving imprints on all of his athletes’ hearts. Years down the road, I know I will always remember him and so will all of State College Track and Field. Artie is truly the best coach any athlete could ever ask for.” Coach Gilkes provides personalized support and encouragement, helping athletes overcome challenges and stay motivated.
