Kiana on a trail run

Kiana, Senior CRM Specialist

Each morning, Kiana braves Seattle’s hills and rainy weather by bike. She and her husband strive for a zero-waste lifestyle. Kiana’s enthusiasm for staying active isn’t just about the environment. She started running cross-country and track during high school, and over time running became more than just a social activity. “Running is my way to get back in touch with feeling healthy,” she says. As the senior CRM specialist, she brings her love of running to each message she sends to runners from Brooks. She shares news about products and stories, but also works behind the scenes to learn what makes runners tick.

Hannah on a trail run

Hannah, Senior Product Fit & Wear Test Analyst

Analyst. Runner. Climber. Ninja. By night Hannah runs or trains for ninja warrior competitions. She spends her days at Brooks collecting feedback from runners and sharing it with developers. Hannah balances her athletic lifestyle with climbing and obstacle course racing, activities that help her face and overcome fears: “Mentally it really pushes you to a new level.” Facing fears in the gym has made Hannah braver in her career. “Once you see what you’re physically capable of, you start seeing more potential in yourself.” For Hannah, that means pursuing leadership opportunities at work that would have intimidated her before.

Robyn on a trail run

Robyn, Footwear Developer

Robyn Winters’ job title should be Minister of the Most Fun Shoes. As the specialty footwear developer, she stretches her imagination with holiday- and marathon-themed shoes. After starting out in customer service, Robyn progressed through various roles until she was encouraged to apply for the shoe position, a perfect match for Robyn’s artistic talent and running passion. Robyn ran her first 5k in 2006, her first half-marathon in 2012, then three full marathons in three months. She’s now hooked on trail running and ultra races. Robyn credits female mentors for her growth: “Having women in senior developer positions at Brooks was huge. It made me more confident.”

Body : When the apparel design team wants to test an idea, they lean on the developers and sample sewers to help their concept come to life. With in-house industrial sewing machines, the PLMs, designers, and developers experiment with patterns to create gear that meet the needs of all kinds of runners. Desks share space with stacks of fabric and spools of thread. Mannequins stand by—literally—to aid in fittings. Having in-house production capabilities allows ongoing experimentation and the freedom to try new things when inspiration strikes.

Header : Connecting with runners
Body : Brooks can make the best sports bras in the world, but if women don’t know how they’re supposed to fit, we haven’t done our job. To bridge the gap, Brooks has employees called Gurus. They connect with runners in their communities and help them find the gear they need. Former Northwest Guru Christa Huot says emotions emerge when women shop for sports bras. “A lot of my job is making women comfortable. It’s a really personal moment to fit somebody in a sports bra,” she says, “I’ve gotten way more hugs fitting women for sports bra than shoes.”
