I like the look, tread, slightly hardened toes box, and general feel of the shoe. I expected it to be a tighter fit on my foot, as previous brooks and other trail running shoes have been. I have long, more narrow feet, and I was hoping the fit would be more like my Pure Connect from a few years ago. I have had those shoes since 2012 and love them! They were like custom fit gloves for my feet! Anyway...I was also hoping for a little more arch support from the Mazama. I feel like my foot slides around a bit and that the shoe is fairly flat with very little arch support. This is a good, solid shoe, but it just doesn't fit my feet quite right. I'd happily recommend this shoe, but would explain the statements above. Read More

I love the predictable "out of the box" comfort and stability of the Brooks line of shoes. I have run with and for Brooks since 1990, and thus found it quite strange that my 1st pair of Mazamas caused a blood blister on both of my little toes during my first trail race in them; and the tread in the forefoot came off the bottom of one of the shoes. I waited about a year and ordered another pair of Mazamas, they faired much better than the 1st pair during my first 15k trail run in them. There was some redness but no blisters, and the tread on both shoes looks to be in good order. These shoes are fast, responsive, and a true trail racer. They are best for lighter, efficient runners. If you want to run fast on the trails, these are definitely your shoes. Read More

Perfect

This is a great shoe if you are like me and do not like a lot of the over

This is a great shoe if you are like me and do not like a lot of the over cushioning. Not only on the bottom but around the ankle and heel as well. Shoe responds well when you contact the ground and stays comfortable on long runs. Rides just fine on pavement as well. My only fear is they are getting rid of it because it is on sale and I see no new version. Time to purchase a couple extra pairs. Read More

I love the look of this shoe, I predominately run on road (not really hiking persay) - is it that inefficient or bad to by trail shoe vs a road shoe ? Ami at any disadvantage? I am a casual runner who does perhaps like half marathons etc, not doing anything more competitive than that. I am just not sure if buying a trail shoe for using predominately on the street is just a huge no !

I wear an 11.5 in the Pure Grit but read reviews that the Mazama runs a half size large. Does the Mazama and Pure Grit run similar sizing or does the Mazama run bigger?

What is the insole drop?

The midsole drop for this shoe is 6mm.

I've used Cascadia for several years on a steep downhill trail — pretty loose and rutty. Lots of rocks, sand, dirt, and pebbles. I'm looking at the Mazama as an alternative with similar "grippy" wedges but the specifications claim it's the lighter. Seems Mazama may be as good or better…but it's not clear. Can you advise about the handling differences?

2017/08/10 Laguna, CA Chris

The Mazama will fit tighter than the Cascadia, so this would likely help with the loose feeling you experienced in the Cascadia!

I can not find the shoe in Kansas, I would like to try it on before I buy it. Any idea where I can get it because people do not seem to be educated on the shoe. Thanks
