Wore shoes 5 times, 4 times over 3 miles, once over 6 miles, all on soft ground. After first run already noticeable that the spikes were bending. On 3rd run a spike bent sideways. The plastic holding the spikes in place is not strong enough. After each run, I carefully cleaned the shoes and dried them gently. On 5th run, toe came through the material. Very disappointed. Talking to others the spike issue is common. This is a track shoe and should never be promoted as suitable for cross-country. Very disappointed. Read More

Too flimsy for cross country

I recently transitioned to 8k Cross Country at the College level, and in my very first cross country race both shoes "broke". The course I was racing on is all dirt, with a few rocks here and there. I stepped on a rock in these shoes and instantly one of the spikes and spike well went back up into my foot quite painfully. Other spike wells/spikes bent sideway, rendering the shoe unuseable, as I can no longer take the spikes out, and if I could the well is no longer vertical from the bottom of the shoe and is bent diagonally. The shoes felt great, and I'm sure they would work well on all grass courses, but for a real cross country course they do not function well. Read More

Awesome Spike for All Levels of Competition

I race 5Ks on XC courses. Courses range from hard dirt and pavement

I race 5Ks on XC courses. Courses range from hard dirt and pavement stretches to gravel paths and muddy messes, and this spike has handled it all. The midsole has a pretty consistent thickness throughout the forefoot, and it also provides decent arch support with good heel cushioning. The microfiber lining in the heel is nice, but I think it could be even better if it ran the full length of the shoe. The XC season is over, and though it survived, the spike has taken some hits. For one, the glue holding the insole doesn't seem to have held too well; the insole has held to the strobel, but it has slid back in both shoes. It would also be nice if it continued up the medial side to provide more comfort and arch support. The plastic grid under the heel has worn, so it doesn't grip as well (but it gets wet grass stuck in it anyway, so there isn't much traction there anyways). One of the spike wells bent during the final kick over a concrete slab. Another collapsed when I put on 1/2 inch pins. The Pebax plate has worn some, but still grips well. I overpronate some, and this spike could have some better stability; the foam on the medial side has crushed some as a result. I like the heel lock, and the laces are really nice and smooth. They are quite responsive because of the Pebax plate and lightweight; they never feel like they're holding me back. The aggressiveness of the outsole is incredible; during a particularly muddy race where several people around me slid and fell, including a teammate, I stayed up and flew over the mud. In fact, every person on our team that had Mach 18s didn't fall. These spikes are great for any racer, from a beginner to state champion. They can hold up to multiple seasons and are priced great for the quality. Though improvements can always be made, like making the tongue more breathable, this spike nails most points right on. Are the spikes removable on the Mach 18 running shoe?

2017/10/28 Stamford, CT Eileen

Yes, they are removable.

I have had both the Mach 17 and Match 18 and I was wondering if there is a release date for the Mach 19s I would of course love to have the latest of these great spikes and curious if I should buy these or wait if the next ones are coming out before my season begins. Thanks for the help!
