UPDATE: Add a star to my previous review of 2018/08/22

With over 100k run now, I've better adapted to the shoe (or vice versa). It makes tempo running a smooth and assured experience – with just a little added kick – and long/easy runs are comfortable enough to just get on with it. I think my last review of 4* was a little harsh, so making it 5* this time. And I definitely prefer this new heel cup to the fat padded one. The Ricochet for most duties…

Move over, Supernova

Hardly any reviews of this yet, so I thought I'd better write one: I bought this with a view to using it as my long run/easy run shoe. I'm ~63kg and run 60 to 80k each week. Hardly any reviews of this yet, so I thought I'd better write one: I bought this with a view to using it as my long run/easy run shoe. I'm ~63kg and run 60 to 80k each week. Before discovering Brooks, I ran in the old Adidas Supernova Glide Boost. The Ricochet is definitely a shoe in the same vein: ~315g in UK 9.5, runs lighter than its weight, versatile, comfortable, sure-footed without being clompy. But the shape better suits my foot than the Adidas. I'm still searching for the sweetspot with Brooks for an everyday shoe. I liked the Launch 4, but the Launch 5 felt too short and too wide in comparison, without enough structure in the upper. I moved to the Ravenna 9 which I much prefer – the straighter last, foot hugging midfoot, great laces and upper – but still prefer a neutral shoe, preferably without a big curve in the last. At my weight, I could tell the Levitate 2 would feel too heavy, so took a chance on the Ricochet. The length is good, the width is narrow enough for my foot, but could clearly accommodate wider feet. The new heelcup works for me. Sometimes I find the big padded collar used in other models a little invasive against my achilles. This new system works despite there being no option for lace-locking (although the laces are a little long, and are the stretchy variety found on the Asteria which I'm not especially fond of). I've done some easy runs, a hilly 20k, a couple of flat 25ks, a tempo run, and some 3k pace intervals. They stood up to the long runs – no hotspots, etc. – but actually came alive more at tempo pace. I think I'll enjoy wearing them for 1000k or so, particularly when doing progressive long runs, or long runs with faster segments. The DNA Amp feels softish but springy like Boost, but doesn't have the tendency to wallow laterally as much. Thumbs up. Meanwhile, I'm hoping either the Launch 6 is a straighter last with a narrower and less flexible upper, or the Ravenna 10 feels even less of a stability shoe than the 9… Read More
