DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).
  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

    Perfect for me!

I need support and lite wt. shoes and these are perfect. I usually get 1/2 size bigger in brooks than I normally wear.

The shoes don't feel snug enough around my ankles. I had another pair of Brooks that were great but this pair just doesn't feel like that on my feet.

    Not a bad shoe

    2016/09/21 | Canada, BC |

I have had these twice, they were recommended for my flat foot to fit with my orthodontics and that I go through the bottoms of shoes very quickly. I was happy with the fit and the overall use of these shoes. Few things I noticed is that after just 1 year of owning them the bottom of the shoe is great but the fabric was falling apart. I ended up having to buy these again and after a year they did the same thing. Another thing I wasn't super happy with is that they only ever have the 1 color is the D Wide. I buy them anyways but wish they would change it up. After 2 years of owning these I have been happy. I'm trying something different this year so will be interesting to see how they hold up.

They are ok. I probably wont buy them again. The back of the shoe is uncomfortable.

    Time to buy

    2016/09/16 | Maine |

These are really comfortable supportive shoes. I bought 2 pairs (my 3rd and 4th pairs to replace my gym pair and walking pair that wore out) Other than that they seem to wear a little quickly, I love them. I do usually wear a size 8 shoe and wear 8.5 in these.

Finally, a shoe tht is wide enough

    2016/09/15 | Oklahoma City |

I have worn Brooks for many years. Lately, I have had a problem with them being wide enough. Seems like when I buy an update of the same shoe, it is much narrower. I have sent 3 pair back before obtaining this pair. The lady on the phone recommended this shoe, stating that it is known for the width. And true to her, it fits good.

So good I bought a second pair

    2016/09/12 | Pennsylvania |

I use these shoes as my every day sneakers and workout shoes. I have done everything from walking long distances at amusement parks to trail running/hiking. I have mortons neuroma, so I need a very good pair of shoes. These are perfect for me. I wore out my first pair in about a year, which is okay for me since I did everything in them. There's not too many bad things I can say about these shoes, the only thing I can think of is that they take a little longer to break in. Other than that, these are great shoes!

    Yes, I would recommend this!

    Feels comfortable walking Ang running.

    2016/09/02 | Glendale, CA |

I use the shoes for walking and at work. Has very good arch support since I'm flat footed. Comfortable and soft for my feet.

    Yes, I would recommend this!

    Perfect for orthotics!

    2016/08/30 | Oakley, CA |

I have been thrilled with my new Dyads. They are working out marvelously with my custom orthotics for metatarsalgia and achilles tendonitis. It is so nice to finally have a shoe roomy enough for an insert, without feeling like you are wearing clown shoes. I will definitely be buying Brooks in the future.

    Yes, I would recommend this!
