Ideal Pressure Zones

What is it?

Ideal Pressure Zones distribute pressure evenly under your foot, transforming your run into a more comfortable and effortless ride from heel to forefoot.

How does it work?

When we take a step back to examine how runners run, we recognize that the highest amount of impact happens as you propel yourself forward. Knowing that this is the moment of highest impact, we’ve reshaped the outsole to disperse pressure evenly throughout your whole foot -- from heel to mid-foot to forefoot.

This means that impact is no longer felt in just one area of the foot which could cause “hot spots” (places that rub or cause pain throughout the run) but is instead dispersed evenly across the entire foot, leading to a smoother, float-like transition as you glide through your run.

Ideal Pressure Zones work in conjunction with our other shoe technologies to help runners maintain their most efficient and natural motion throughout the run.

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

Super DNA

What is it?

An adaptable midsole material that combines plushness with adaptability and provides 25% more cushioning than BioMoGo DNA.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Super DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Super DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Super DNA through a microscope, you’d see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further:

  • Super DNA is our latest stop on the DNA journey. Introduced with the Transcend and now found in the Glycerin, Super DNA combines the adaptability of DNA and adds 25% more cushioning than BioMoGo DNA while still maintaining the same energy return and biodegradable properties. Essentially you get the best of both worlds – adaptability and ultimate cushioning.

Other benefits include:

  • Significantly more cushioning than standard midsole materials
  • Increased energy-return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

I work in a hospital and do 2-3 miles of walking each work day. I also am a supernator (serious under-pronator)with scarring from a ruptured plantar fascia. These shoes are very good at stabilizing the rolling of my feet to the outside. The fit is good. They provide adequate arch support, but I could probably use more. However, overall, they allow me to do all that walking without having aching feet in the end of a 12-hr shift. I also like the color choices for this shoe. Mine are the navy.

This was to be my sixth pair of Glycerins, unfortunately, I was very unhappy with them. I can't say enough great things about the 11, but the 12 is totally different and NOT for me.

I loved running in the Glycerins, and thought I had finally found a shoe that would give me the cushion I crave. This new version definitely does not measure up. I thought they felt wrong the moment I tried them on, but hoped running in them would make a difference. Nope. These feel too flat, as if the arch support is gone, and hard, as if too much cushioning was sacrificed for weight.

I got my usual 1/2 size bigger. The length felt the same as usual, but these are narrower than previous versions. I don't have wide feet by any means, but even with loosened laces, they felt too constrictive.

Needless to say, I am bummed. NOTHING else I tried on at the store felt as good as my Glycerin 10s and 11s did. Let's hope the next redesign can address these issues.

I say, if you like this version, you might as well just wear the Ghost as save a few dollars.

I had always been a Nike lover until I discovered the Brooks Glycerin 11!! I can't say enough good things about the Glycerin 11 and 12 shoes! Although I'm only a walker, I have RA and have difficulty finding the right shoes. These are perfect and I'm able to do so much more and for longer periods of time. Thank you, Brooks!

I own, Glycerin 9, 10, 11 and 12. The 11 was kind of narrow, but I still wanted to give it the 12 a try. It was Narrower than all previous versions. I feel sad beacuse I loved the version 9 and 10.

    Comments about Glycerin 12:

As a CNA I am on my feet a ton, my Gylcerin 11s were fantastic and I could work a 12 hour shift and my foot would still be fresh. I also use my Glycerins for gym time, I put a lot of stress on them lifting and running. I basically abuse them to death. The 12s are a good shoe but they did take awhile longer to break in. The 11s fit my med/high arch like a dream but it's taking more effort to break the 12s in. Overall I think these are a great shoe, once broken in they will become your best friend, whether you are running, lifting, or working. Like a human best friend you have to give the shoes some time to get used to your feet.

      Not a Cushioning Shoe

      By lou

      Pros

      Comments about Glycerin 12:

I bought these after researching "cushioning" shoes. I have developed some foot pain lately (heel pain, ball of foot pain, tingling) and wanted to find a high quality cushioning shoe to help with some of my issues. I tried them on in a store and thought they felt pretty decent on their carpet but was unsure so I did not buy them. After more research, I kept coming back to the Glycerin because so many people talked about how cushioned they are. Well, I decided to give them a shot. Kudos to Brooks for getting these to me in 3 days. However, I am very disappointed with the shoes and will be sending them back. These Glycerin 12's are the hardest trainers that I have. Walking around the house on bamboo flooring (which is soft for wood) was like walking barefoot on concrete. My heel pain felt worse in these. I really wanted to like these shoes because they are very well made and a lot of people like them but I seriously would never call this a "cushioning" shoe.
