Additional Information

The name is no coincidence: runners just can't get enough of the tried and true support in the Addiction 11. We maintained its generous DNA-ified ride for cushioning and support that adapts to your needs, and added more in-shoe comfort like a better sockliner and an asymmetrical upper with suede overlays. One run and you'll be hooked.

I'm a very heavy woman with feet that roll sharply outward who was having severe foot pain from walking; particularly from walking the dog.

Multiple x-rays later I learned from the podiatrist that what I thought was a compression fracture was a LACK OF SUPPORT!

The doctor provided me a list of options for shoe models and sent me to a running shop where they watched me walk. We found Brooks to be the best fit and best control. They didn't have wide women's Addictions so I went with the men's, which were not so pretty, but from day one my feet stopped hurting. It was as if a little shoe angel had come and blessed my feet! I would not take them off until I found the all-white walking model (which I'm wearing now) and tried the women's, which fit very well also.

Sooooo... this is my fourth pair and I do find the Addiction 11 the slightest bit tighter across the widest part of my foot, but they are still the best shoes I've ever owned.

They're cute enough, but not terribly feminine and certainly not acceptable for anything but the most casual situations. And they do not keep water out, which is a negative here in the Great Northwest. I find them best for indoors, pavement walking, and using the exercise bike.

I would most like to see some color variety, particularly more feminine colors. A nice purple/lavender or hot pink/pale pink with a light grey would be adorable.

Either way, thank you Brooks, way to go - you saved my tootsies and I'll be forever grateful. I'd love to buy two pair to switch in and out, so roll out those color choices, please please please! I beg you. Really. Seriously. Please.

I have been purchasing the Addiction and Ariel for at least the last 10 years. Last year I purchesed the new Ariel and couldn't wear them because they changed the cushioning or something and my feet killed me every time I ran in them. So I bought the new Addition and had no issues. This year I bought the Addition and ran in to the same problem I had with the Ariel. I have no idea what they are changing, but my feet felt like I was running on nails by my first mile (I normally run at least 3 easily). I instantly returned these shoes too. I am trying hard to find another motion control shoe to purchase that works with my feet since I have only ever used Brooks before.

Comments about Addiction 11:

Over the last several years I have had a number of Addictions which I would rate 5-stars. I now wear medical orthotics due to flat feet and associated over pronation. The Addiction 9s and 10s were the most comfortable athletic shoes I have ever worn - no exceptions. I use them for exercise walking because I am not to wear "walking" shoes due to lack of support compared to running shoes. I walk 3-4 miles on the road daily. This new design, however, is not comfortable at all. Whatever Brooks did to these shoes made them rigid in a bad way- like concrete blocks on your feet. Yeah, they are supportive, stable and control motion, but are no longer cushioned or comfortable. The sizing as been made slightly smaller, which is bad since Brooks already run small by at least 1/2 to a whole size, depending on the style. SInce I have already upsized twice for both the brand and the orthotic I cannot upsize again - the heels are already too big. I have even tried the men's size equivalent but the heels are even bigger so I altered the lacing and wear thinner socks in mine. I think they also altered the longitudinal toe-to-heel support. Additionally, the forefoot cushioning is nonexistent (almost as bad as the Just Do It brand) and the heel cushioning is barely better than my old worn out Addiction 10s. The materials in these and their construction seem to have been cheapened, or layers for cushioning removed. After recently trying on every candidate shoe by every major brand, the Addiction 11s are still the best of the so-called stability or motion control shoes by any manufacturer. That isn't a compliment. My feet hurt in these but I have to keep them since there is no other show suitable. Change for the sake of change and extreme cost cutting, Brooks, is not an improvement, nor responsive to loyal customers.

Excellent support for a strong over pronator; distributes pressure evenly over bottom of foot for comfort with very firm control.

    Comments about Addiction 11:

The Addiction 10 was the most comfortable shoe they made. The changes made to the Addiction 11 leaves must to be desired. The shoe is 1/2 size too small. I had to get an EE width as the width is a full size too small. Cushioning is poor. My toes still feel cramped and they still squeeze the soft tissue along the outside of my foot. Horrible design. The new Ariels are even worse. I always wore Brooks but need to find something else.

        Comments about Addiction 11:

Brooks has fixed the major gripe I had with the 10 version of the Addiction. The lacing is back to what I would call "traditional". On the 10 there was this little peice that was attached to the shoe with elastic and contained 2 of the lace holes. The elastic was not durable at all and did not help with my lacing comfort. I have worn this style since version 7 and so far these are feeling and looking good enough to buy a second pair. Oh and I love the new small loop at the top of the tongue. It really helps keep the tongue centered rather than letting it slip off to the side.

These shoes are amazing for stability, however the cushioning needs some work. But, that is my only complaint. PLEASE don't change this shoe otherwise. It has taken quite a while to find a shoe that fits all my needs.
