I've owed at least one pair of every Cascadia since the second version. Each edition is a little different than the others (exception: #6 was a lot different). I've always been 'mostly' happy with each version. I have my favorites (#3 and #5) and my least favorite (#6). I'll put 400-700 miles on each pair.

I've been on two mountain runs in the 9 so far, and I'm instantly happy with this version.

Pros: The biggest change I see in the 9 versus the 8 is that the 9 has a little wider toe box. For me, this is a positive change; I like that little extra room for toes to splay.

Pros: Same ol' Cascadia feel.

Cons: The two guidance loops at the top of the tongue make it a little cumbersome to tighten the laces like I'm used to. The loops are meant to keep the tongue for sliding down, but they just feel like they're in they way.

I guess I am a semi-pro athlete. I run a number of ultra marathons every year. The Cascadia has been the go-to shoe for years. I haven't raced in anything else. Unfortunately, the design and durability seem to be in a downward spiral. Brooks had this shoe right for a number of years, unfortunately the sole does not offer me as much protection as it use to for a 100 mile race. The tread tears off in chunks. I will miss the Cascadia of old, but I sure got a lot of amazing training and racing miles in them.

Comments about Cascadia 9:

I have worn Cascadias since v.1. I like that the lacing system for these has gone back to a straight lacing system. These are one shoe I can put on brand new and run 30 miles with no break in. Super solid and very comfortable. I would like to see them lighten up just a little but overall these shoes are great!

    Comments about Cascadia 9:

Purchased to run a trail marathon and only had time for a few "break in" runs. The Cascadia 9 was comfortable right out of the box and provided far more traction on slippery trails that "road" shoes. No issues during the race. A great purchase!

Do not recommend for road running

I love Brooks shoes. I love the Cascadia. This version 9 is a good one. Ordered a 2nd pair to have on hand because you never know how the next version will compare. I wasn't a huge fan of the 8 but 9 is great.

These shoes are a dream on the trail. I have always been an avid runner, and the Cascadia has everything I need in a long distance trail shoe. The cushion... The responsiveness... Wearing the Cascadia is like turning your feet into mountain lion paws made of clouds.

        Comments about Cascadia 9:

Like the shoe but I have had two pairs replaced because the lugs rip out. One after only two runs. It has cause me to rethink Brooks which is a shame because I have run Adrenaline's for so long and have enjoy the cascadia (when they survive).

          Comments about Cascadia 9:

These are the best all-around shoe I have ever had! I wear them running (road & trail), walking and working in the yard! They wear great, cleanup easily and as long as you have a few pairs to rotate, last forever!
My best story is a 4 week European vacation...packed real ight and took just one pair of shoes......Cascadia! Brought a few extra insoles and swapped them out every few days. What a unique, perfect shoe. Hope they never change!

          The Must-Have Trail Shoe

          Comments about Cascadia 9:

If you spend any amount of time off the beaten path, whether braving the mountain bike trails, rolling the dirt roads, or galloping the grass fields, you need this shoe in your collection. It can change everything.
True, I spend most of my time on the roads, but when I get the itch to hit a trail or blaze my own path, I find that nothing makes the grade like Cascadia. The difference is obvious: lighter than most trainers, but stable; soft and cushioned interior that reduces rubbing; and tread that will bite through the mud and sand. Added bonus: great on snow and ice!
This shoe has plenty of positive reviews, but let me assure you: I try everything, and I know what I like. I like this shoe.

Using Cascadia 9, you can tear the earth apart in a flash. If you're not an athlete, you can still wear it for work and get compliments due to its cool design. What I don't like is the gluing, which is untidy because it is somewhat visible.

            Comments about Cascadia 9:

I was looking for a light weight pair of good weather hiking shoes. I knew I found them from the moment I put these on. I just finished hiking one of the most difficult and primitive trails in Washington State with these while all others were wearing hiking boots. I was laughing all the way to the top as the agility and sure-footedness of these puts any "hiking" shoe to shame. As the weather turns I am sure that I will need to get out the boots but until then these are my kicks.
