Brooks® Sports’ Innovative Shoe Wins Highest Industry Award

Brand’s Glycerin 8® Featuring Adaptable DNA Technology Named Runner’s World’s “Editor’s Choice”

Bothell, Wash. – January 26, 2010

Brooks Sports, Inc. (www.brooksrunning.com), , the only company in the world that offers footwear, apparel, and accessories exclusively for the runner, announced today that the Glycerin® 8, its debut shoe featuring Brooks® DNA the brand’s innovative cushioning system, has been crowned “Editor’s Choice” by the worldwide authority on running, Runner’s World. In the magazine’s Spring Shoe Guide, published in the March issue on newsstands February 2, Brooks’ Glycerin® 8 took top honors of the 27 running shoes wear tested and reviewed over the course of one month.

Brooks’ Glycerin® 8 neutral running shoe, released January 1, 2010, features Brooks® DNA, a first-of-its-kind cushioning system that adapts to the unique needs of each runner. The system automatically and physically adapts with each foot strike to the ever-changing amount of force placed on the foot during the run. The result is the perfect balance of cushioning and stability in response to the varying biomechanics, weight, pace, gait, and environment of each and every runner.

“This award marks another incredible win for our brand—and for runners,” said Jim Weber, president and CEO of Brooks. “Being recognized and honored by Runner’s World for the Glycerin® 8 validates the performance of our new Brooks® DNA cushioning system and underscores our commitment to research and innovation in performance running.”

Showcasing excitement for the shoe and Brooks® DNA in both the specialty running and national account retail channels, spring 2010 bookings of the Glycerin® 8 were up 27 percent and 43 percent, respectively, relative to that of the Glycerin® 7 for spring 2009.

“Our wear-testers overwhelmingly loved the cushioning and fit,” stated the Runner’s World review about the Glycerin® 8, adding that the shoe’s new Brooks® DNA material delivers a ride that is “not too squishy and not too firm but just right.”

Runner’s World wear-testers applauded the Glycerin® 8 for having “just enough cushioning to feel good and stable, but not too marshmallowy” and added that the shoe “was supportive yet not heavy or bulky.”

The Glycerin® 8 features Brooks® DNA in strategic locations in the rearfoot and forefoot of the shoe, in addition to the brand’s eco-friendlier full-length BioMoGo midsole. The neutral performance running shoe also includes the brand’s anatomically contoured Profile sockliner, as well as moisture-managing Element linings. Runners can select from the Glycerin® 8’s two men’s and two women’s color options, as well as regular, narrow, and wide widths. Suggested retail price of the Glycerin® 8 is $130.00.

Different from the running company’s patented HydroFlow® cushioning technology, Brooks® DNA is the only cushioning system required in the Glycerin® 8 to deliver peak performance. Consumers will soon see Brooks® DNA come to more Brooks shoes, including franchise styles Beast®, Ariel®, Trance™ 10, and Adrenaline™ GTS 11.
