Additional Information

Pick a line, trust your feet and run absolutely wild. It’s as simple as that in the completely redesigned PureGrit 3 trail running shoe for women. Taking a cue from the mad grip of climbing shoes, this lightweight runner connects you to the terrain as it responds and protects you from its tricky elements. An outsole peppered with hex lugs delivers maximum grip, while the propulsion plate provides a responsive toe-off and protects your foot from rocks and roots on the trail. A toe guard provides protection and added traction when the trail gets steep.

Just like our core line, we hold PureProject to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction and fewer materials, runners should generally expect shoes from the PureProject line to last approximately 250-300 miles.

Rounded Heel

What is it?

“Rounded Heel” is just a fancy name that we like to use for the rounded and reduced heel on our shoes. The slight curvature in the heel vastly improves the alignment of your body, encouraging a more efficient stride.

How does it work?

It’s really quite simple. The curvature in the heel works to align the body by shifting the contact point forward. As you hit the ground there is a greater clearance distance under the middle of your heel, which aligns force through the center of your ankle, thus reducing internal stress on your body.

These shoes have everything I was looking for and more. The grip is phenomenal. I wanted good trail running shoes for making it up and down mountain trails and these are perfect. The first mountain I tried them on is part of an iconic race every year in Alaska: Mt Marathon. It's 3 miles to the top with an elevation gain of 3000 ft. Average grade is 38% and max of 60%. The mountain has levels of mud, clay mud, and loose shale. These shoes held their grip with all of it. I loved the certainty of every step. The way down was great, too. The way the shoe holds your foot ensures you aren't ramming your toes into the front of your shoe with every step. I kicked quite a few rocks on the way down and the top toe guard protected my foot beautifully.

One drawback that I see is limited impact absorbency. I think this is because the bottom of the shoe is designed to protect from the errant rock or root, so it's a bit stiffer than a normal running shoes.

I've been running road races and tri's in pure flows for a few years now and I like the similarity between the two "pure" products. The pure grits just feel like the pure flow's trail running sister.

I bought the original Pure Grit last year and loved it, I was hoping the third edition would be an improvement to an amazing shoe but sadly, it was not. There is much more shoe than before and the extra cushioning is unneeded in my opinion. If I wanted more shoe I wouldn't be buying from the Pure collection. I am definitely returning these. Another strange occurrence, my socks kept getting pulled down, sounds silly but supper annoying and I tried three different pairs of differing lengths all with the same outcome. I loved the original PureGrit, I wish I could have stock piled my closet with them.

      Comments about PureGrit 3:

I use for trail walking and light running. Shoe sizing is off. I sized up a half size and then the shoe felt a bit too long. My foot, ball of foot, felt compressed vertically, especially on the outside of football.

Please, please bring back the original pure grit. It is my favorite shoe of all time. It fit perfectly and was so comfortable.

      Great Improvement from Pure Grit2

        Comments about PureGrit 3:

I loved running in the PureGrit 2 and my only complaints were they could use more aggressive lugs for traction and be a bit more durable for the price. Out comes the PureGrit 3 that did just that, added aggressive lugs and made the shoe more durable but still kept the light weight, low drop and responsiveness. I love running in this shoe and it also feels good on the roads which I occasionally am on to get to a trail. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is no tongue stabilizer and after a mile the tongue will end up to the inside of my foot. I haven't gotten any blisters from the tongue issue on my last 15 miler but I do notice it when running at times. This could easily be fixed. I think I will just put a stabilizer on the tongue myself for now.

        Good Trail Shoe

        Comments about PureGrit 3:

I have skinny feet with a very high arch so that is why I listed arch support as a con. If you have regular or slightly high arch, you will find it adequate. Otherwise, the shoe fits very similar to the Pure Connect which I wear for road running. Wore these straight out of the box for a 7.5 mile trail race and didn't have a single problem. Love the Pure Grit for the low heel drop with cushioning, just wish they would put the arch support back from the original Pure models.
