I haven't worn the Cadence since the 2nd edition. The 3 and 4 were both too narrow for my foot. The 2s were my all time favorite shoe, and I was pretty devastated when the model changed. The 5 seems pretty similar to the 2, except better- the toe box widened (wider than the 4) and they seem more cushioned than the 2.
The shoe corrects my slight tendency to overpronate, without being heavy or too much of a support shoe. I haven't tried the shoes in wet weather, so I can't honestly review them for that specific use. But as far as a running shoe/gym shoe, they are awesome. Right now I am wearing them with an orthotic, as I am currently trying to deal with a severe case of plantar fasciitis. I believe that switching from my regular Brooks shoes to other styles caused the onset of my foot issues. If not for my (hopefully temporary) plantar fasciitis issue, the factory insole would be sufficient. I really appreciate the new body of the shoe and the elimination of the stretchy band that used to cross the midfoot. The tongue bothered me a little at first- seemed a little long and I was afraid it would poke me uncomfortably, but I haven't found this to be the case. The laces are a little stretchy, which I appreciate. I never thought laces were all that important, but every time I tie my shoes, I think about how nice these laces are. The extra stretch helps me keep from lacing my shoes too tightly. I truly hope that Brooks doesn't modify this model too much. I love these shoes! Two pairs so far, and I anticipate buying more.

very disappointed with brooks lately. Every model this shoe is getting more and more narrow in the toe box. The last version of this shoe I have is the 2. I loved it so much I bought several pair. I am now in need of more running shoes and I just tried on the 5 version. It is an entirely different looking and feeling shoe. The tongue is no longer attached and short. It is long and pokes my leg. They got rid of the laces that I loved and the shoe looks completely different. I love how the 2 and 3 look. It was a shoe that stood out from any other shoe I had ever seen, I got lots of compliments on them. Brooks if your going to completely change a shoe that used to have rave reviews, then keep the old model pure cadence 2 and 3 and make this new shoe a completely different shoe with a different name because it is not the same. Way too tight and narrow. Please make the toe box bigger so my toes can spread out when I run like they are supposed to

Comments about PureCadence 5:

These are quite possibly the worst shoes I have ever run in. I have used Brooks for most of my 20 marathons, lengthy training, work run commuting and 50 milers. Brooks fit my foot better than any other brand, which I think is paramount in a good shoe. I liked the original Launch and I have had many iterations of the Pure Flow. When they changed though, I wasn't a fan of how stiff they had become; so, I thought I'd give the Cadence a shot. I like the sole, and the fit is perfectly snug; however, there is a sharp overhanging seam at the bottom of the tongue which really cuts into your foot. I had a bloody foot and shoe after the first run. I gave them a few more tries for a chance to soften up, but it didn't help. I don't even think I can wear them casually. After nixing these and the Flows, I'm losing faith in the brand and am not sure I'll chance wasting more money on another pair. Sad day.

      Comments about PureCadence 5:

Since reconstructive ankle surgery 4 years ago on the recommendation of my PT the Pure Cadence have been my go-to for running shoes with my first pair being the 3's. I have worn through several pairs of these shoes and was ready to buy yet another pair this month. However after reading the reviews online I decided to find a dealer to try them on first. I was more than a little disappointed to find that the reviews were right. They were so uncomfortable (even a ½ size larger) that I wouldn't even try to wear them or 'break them in'. They are far too narrow, and the top of the shoe was biting into my foot through my socks just walking around the store. My past pairs have been like comfortable gloves I could just slip-on out of the box and run with, not the case with the 5's. Sadly I have had to resort to another brand for now for my running shoes, with a busy month of races ahead I can't afford to battle the discomfort that I could feel in just the few moments of testing them out in the store.

I am hoping Brooks is reading these reviews and looking to make alterations accordingly for Pure Cadence 6.

        Comments about PureCadence 5:

I"ve been using the PureCadence line since the first model came out and I absolutely loved the line. I've trained and ran multiple marathons using the PureCadence line. When I purchased the new PUreCadence 5 I have to say I am absolutely disappointed with the new design. The tongue moves around and it's not soft. The entire shoe is not soft like in previous designs. The top of the shoe is too stiff that if worn without socks they cut the top of your feet, this should not happen. The shoe also feels too narrow and stiff. I know it's stability shoe but the previous models. I"m afraid this will be my last PureCadence purchase if the shoe does not update and change for the better. My PureCadence 5's are brand new and I cannot stand them and I unfortunately cannot return them any more from the store I purchased them from. I'm currently looking into some New Balance shoes to replace my PureCadence 5 since I'm training for the NYC marathon. I really hope Brooks takes all the good things customers have to say about the previous models and incorporate all those things into the future PureCadence 6 if they want this shoe to continue having a following.

        Comments about PureCadence 5:

I run 70-80+ miles a week and need a light weight shoe with a little bit of support. I like performance shoes, but not minimal shoes. They are perfect! They are "enough" shoe that i can wear them for high mileage and all my runs, but also light enough to wear for speed work and tempo runs. They felt narrow the first couple of runs but then loosened up and are perfect. I wouldn't want them too loose and "sloppy". I love the stretch in the laces and the overall fit and feel of these shoes. i would have given them a 5 if the toe box was just a wee bit wider.

            Comments about PureCadence 5:

This was my 5th pair of the pure cadence shoes. I started in the pure cadence 2, and they were the first pair of running shoes I ever loved. By the pure cadence 4, I was starting to fall out of love a bit. The material used for the interior of the 4 and also the tongue were not my favorite. They also were getting narrower. However, the pure cadence 5 was where I had to draw the line and return them. I couldn't stand them. The tongue was horrible and kept sliding and would cut into my ankle. They were super narrow. I thought maybe I would be able to break them in, but no can do. They needed to go. I beg you, Brooks, please go back to the pure cadence 2 or 3 style. Those were much more superior to what you have now.

              Comments about PureCadence 5:

I've worn every version of PureCadence since it came out. It's my favorite shoe--or at least it was. Throughout the years, I noticed reviews from people who thought the shoe had been ruined in a variety of ways (I didn't think so, at the time). But now, it's my turn to make that statement. Because of the poor reviews already written, I tried these shoes on at my running store instead of just telling them "Size 10, please", and going on my merry way. Good thing I did because these shoes are WAY too narrow at the forefoot--and my feet are not wide. I felt it on every step and just couldn't buy them. I thought about trying to track down old versions of the shoe, but know I need to move on. Bought Launch 3's which are good so far. I just hope they don't get me injured as I'm going for my PR in the half marathon.

              Comments about PureCadence 5:

I have purchased the Brooks Pure Cadence for years now (since they first came out), probably have owned 6 pairs. This edition (Pure Cadence 5) is way different than they have been. Too narrow. My toes become numb while running. I don't even use them any more after trying them for over a month. I guess I'll have to go back to a different edition and hope they still have my size in stock. Disappointed.

This is the first pair of Brooks pure project shoes I have ever returned! I have loved the cadence the past few years but from the moment I put these on they were uncomfortable. I tried walks and a couple runs to break them in but my legs were not having it. Way too stiff of a shoe and I felt zero shock absorption. I ordered the cadence 4 in a different color I had previously just to get back to normal comfort! I really wish Brooks didn't change this shoe so much.
