I've worn this jacket while running and cycling in the winter, and it's kept me warm and dry. The jacket is comfortable. There is soft trim around the neck, so it is not uncomfortable if you zip the jacket completely. It is semi-fitted, so if you want to wear several layers underneath, you might want to order a size up. I was the right temperature with just a long sleeve t shirt underneath. It is a cute jacket, so I wear it even when not training.

I run 20 - 30 miles per week. Last year , I purschased the Utopia Jacket and loved it. As light as it was, I could be warm in 10 degree weather. I bought this one as an alternate. I was so disappointed in the cut of this jacket : it's too long ( I'm 5'7" ) and it is cut too close. Sizing up would not help . I returned it.

    Comments about Utopia Softshell II:

This jacket is super in so many ways! The softshell fabric is somewhat wind resistant and placed in all the right places for optimal coverage without excess bulk. The other areas are simply fuzzy backed thick spandex for warmth but flexibility with breathability. High zip up neck keeps the cold out with zipper garage for anti chafe. Low coverage in the front & rear keeps belly & hiney happy & warm. The fuzzy cuffins are awesome and the longer arms are appreciated for zero ride up comfort. The fit is snug, for sure, there is no bottom "elastic" strip to keep the cold drafts out so you want it to fit form fitting or else this wont help keep you warm(think tights vs regular lounging pants & drafts).

However, this is where I have a minor complaint, the shoulder distance...holy moley, it is close! I can't even put this jacket on one arm at a time it is so close, I have to put both arms in and hold them over my head and wiggle the jacket down that way. Very strange since it fits everywhere else correctly except for there, if I sized up, you'd gain shoulder distance fit but loose the fitted parts that are designed to keep you warm. Sloppy fitted gear never is worth it, ever.

Pockets galore! Very cute design & pattern(I got the Midnight Hatch colorway). Brooks quality. Reflective hits. Another winter winner, for sure!

      Comments about Utopia Softshell II:

I did a big no-no and wore this for the first time on race day. I've ran most of the winter outdoors a long Chicago lakefront and stuck to my usual layers (lighter base layer, thicker mid layer, jacket). Once I started running, I regretted the number of layers I wore. I would have been comfortable with the lighter base layer and this jacket. I was protected from the wind and was HOT despite the temperatures (single digits, with gusts up to 20mph).Even the sleeves' thumbholes helped keep my hands warm.

I'm happy I found a lightweight jacket that can stand up to the elements!

I do wish it had a hood to help protect my face/head from wind/blowing snow.

I'm 5' 4", 125lbs.I'm not a busty person, but do have broader shoulders. I ordered both a small and medium. The small was tight across my chest/shoulders and it would have been uncomfortable to add additional layers. The medium fits looser and more comfortably in chest area with out too much extra space.

I look forward to running many mile in this jacket in hopefully "warmer" temperatures!

        Comments about Utopia Softshell II:

I've only been able to get out and use this a few times, but I love it. Very warm, but not bulky. I'm using this to run in sub 30 weather, and it works great. I'm out for an hour or two and stay warm, with no rubbing or chaffing. It is form fitting, but seems true to size, and not too tight. The sleeves feel a little long to me, but not enough to cause a problem. This jacket is comfortable and cute enough to wear when I'm not running, too. I'm a heavier runner, 5'4", size 10 or 12, usually wear a large, sometimes a medium. I got this in a large (and pink), and it's a perfect fit.

          Comments about Utopia Softshell II:

I ordered this jacket after reading countless reviews and trying on many options in my 2 local running shops. I never ran in the Michigan winters because I was never warm enough. I couldn't be happier. I just ran 7 miles on Christmas Eve morning at 8F and a -16 windchill. I was warm and comfortable with only one baselayer underneath. I am 5ft 7.5" and 127 lb and wear the Medium. Length is perfect. Fit is complimentary but roomy enough to wear my under armour cold gear base comfortably. Most thumb holes are too short for my arms but these are perfectly placed for me. I have the pink which is bright and reflective. I haven't worn this in rain but melting snow just beads up on the exterior and I stay dry. I researched SO many ladies jackets and couldn't be happier with this one.

          Comments about Utopia Softshell II:

First, the good things. This will be one of my wintertime staples. The windproof material is in the right places to keep me warm, but it is breathable under the arms and fleecy around the neck. I tend to get hot when I run, so I would never wear this in 40 degree weather, but I have taken it in the low 30s with a mist and a little wind, and it was great- and will probably be good for runs in the teens and 20's with a long sleeve under. I have the pink one, and it is quite cute, and turns out that it matches my pink running shoes, so that is a win. I like the idea of the thumb holes and cuffins, which I have in a similar running top from another brand... however to get to my qualms on this top: I think these were implemented in such a way that they are not quite as comfortable. The thumb holes are just a little too small to be comfortable throughout a long run, and the material that folds over your fingers doesn't quite cover the thumb holes, making quite a chilly little hole during the beginning of the run before I warm up. The collar of this is also far too tall and tight. I have to unzip it to my collarbone to stop the chafing on the top of my collarbone and my chin, which spoils the point of having this nice warm collar. In general, this is a good, windproof layer for seriously cold days. For me, the collar and hand warmer situations are ineffective though.
