I spent way too much time on-line and in stores trying to find a Winter (less than 35 degree) jacket to replace my Patagonia for a few months. I chose this based on previous edition reviews, I wanted a hood and just to try the technology behind it.

In my opinion, Brooks does a horrible job marketing/selling this jacket. It is so much better than what you see on-line even on this site.

First day out today in Southern Maine. 35 degrees, pre-dawn, no wind and no sun for the most part. The very first thing you notice is that is almost feels like going from an off the rack jacket to a tailored suit. The sleeves have extra material that fall right on the back of your hand (I was wearing gloves) and it just feels like it hits you in the right spot. Was not a big deal to get to my watch, and the built in hand warmers I guess could work well when it gets warmer. I will try and repost another review in different conditions.

The collar is tall and cozy, and by the first mile I had already unzipped it to vent some heat. This material is crazy. I still can't believe how a jacket this light keeps you that warm. I had a long sleeve Champion workout shirt (so not a compression shirt and heavier than an Under Armour technical shirt) and I am probably going to try a lighter long sleeve shirt (like what you would wear running in just your long sleeve shirt of choice) next time out in similar temps.

I am 6'2" and 230LBS. Average runs are ~8 miles and early mornings at least 3 days per week, so depending on the time of year the sun is up or coming up during the run. Not a sprinter but not a slug either. I am in the 48+ plus chest range and ordered up for an XXL. I am glad I did for the mobility and room in the shoulders, but if I were the same height but a smaller build, would recommend an XL. The length is below my hips, which is great for protection and some coverage wearing running pants/tights.

There was no wind and really no sun to speak of today, so I can't comment yet on what this is like on a windy day. It certainly does feel windproof, but time will tell. I got the Green and the color is much better in person. Not dark at all, and the Black side sections are where the venting happens. The iPod pocket seems to be in a good place centered near the zipper and I didn't notice it at all during the run.

I read some other reviews about feeling "clammy" from being too warm. I can see where that can come from if you have too much on under this jacket and it is not cold enough. In my mind, all jackets are a compromise. I would rather be warm and clammy than cold and a little more dry. If you get too hot, unzip the front or lift your arms for a minute is my take on it. You can always cool off....you can't warm up. I felt at least 3 times during my route how much better I felt than the same temps in my other jacket 2 days ago. Extra warmth = feel better = run better.

All in all, I am pretty stoked with this purchase and can see using it into the low 40's with a short sleeve shirt underneath. Time will tell.

Most runners are likely slim, so this jacket would work great for them, but my husband who is tall and a larger man felt very uncomfortable in this jacket. He runs and works out regularly, but just has a larger frame, and the XXL size was still VERY tight on him. I understand the need to be a little more fitted to keep out wind and hold in warmth, but a little more breathing room for the XL or XXL sizes is needed at a minimum.

I am a huge fan of this jacket. I spent more time than I probably should have researching winter running jackets and ended up pulling the trigger on the Silver Bullet II. I run year-round, even in sub-zero temps and this jacket is the perfect layer. Below 20 degrees, an Under Armor coldgear layer is perfect underneath, from 20-30 I go with a long-sleeve tech shirt, and above 30, I go with a short-sleeve tech shirt. The hood is a brilliant edition, it has a slim, fitted feel which means there isn't any extra fabric blowing around, it keeps the wind out, and light rain/snow isn't a problem either. This jacket is simply the best. Light weight but very soft, not like a crinkly rain shell. The cut is fabulous, long and slender. I love the kaddywompus front zip, it lands just to the side of your chin under a very generous protection flap that snaps closed. The hood is great, not some afterthought barely usable plastic bag thing like some jackets have stashed in the collar. The hood is larger cut but with bungees around the perimeter to snug it up, even having a small "brim" like front to it, and of course it is lined with the aluminum membrane like the rest of the jacket.
The "cuffins" are great, fold over mitts for your hands built into the jacket. Ventilation under the arms and sides is great. Pockets galore!
The best part is how warm this thing keeps you though! A true winter winner! I wish every running item for winter I owned was from the Silver Bullet line! It feels so much like a spring weight rainshell but yet it is a heavyweight hitter!
        Bravo Brooks!

I was looking for a winter jacket and I found a good one. It provides cold blocking and wind protection. I'm 5'7" & 150# and found this jacket tighter under the arms more than like., but it's alright. It does what it says keeps you warm, lightweight and has stretch fabric in the right locations. Note, The collar is high on this jacket it covers my entire neck.

I bought this jacket as a replacement for a PI softshell I ran in all last winter and could not be happier.

I have worn this jacket in temps as low as 16 and as high as 34. using only a thin merino wool baselayer. It kept me warm right from the start and I never felt like I was over heating. Just as the product description says, you really seem to stay at the same temperature.

I have also worn the jacket in two different rain runs and had no issues. The thumbholes/half mitts are also nice. The elastic band at the bottom keeps it from rising up.

This jacket is amazing light and compact too. I never thought it would work as well as it does but...

Great jacket for cold weather running

Jacket is very light and feels very good on the body. I was a little surprised that collar is a bit bulky but that's because there is a hood hidden inside. Jacket zips pretty high up and provides very good coverage against the wind.

Make no mistake this is a true cold weather jacket. Is there such thing is too warm?

I usually run with a base layer and a jacket during winter time.

My first experience wearing the jacket was a 5 miler with temperatures in the teens and decent north wind. I got hot about two miles in and unzipped half way down to cool off.

My second experience wearing it was a weekend long run with temperatures in the 25-30 range, sunny, no wind. Started out fully zipped up, by mile two, I opened the zipper half way and kept it in the position for entire run. Still was hot with that weather.

This jacket is designed for those mornings when it's cloudy, windy and temperatures hover in the teens or single digits. Perfect winter attire.
