Additional Information

Experience the next best thing to naked feet with the hyper-light PureDrift. Spread those toes with two split grooves that allow your forefoot to flex through its three functional units. A hardly-there upper has a close fit and provides a little more coverage than a birthday suit. When you really want to feel free as a bird, remove the sockliner for a zero drop experience. Feet, meet feel.

Please note: The PureDrift was designed with a wider toe box than other Brooks shoes. If you prefer a more snug fit, size down half a size.

Just like our core line, we hold PureProject to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction and fewer materials, runners should generally expect shoes from the PureProject line to last approximately 250-300 miles.

Simply put, a great shoe for those that can wear a TRUE minimalist shoe! I've been running in the Green Silence for a couple of years now and went very minimalist to incorporate the Vibram Bikila and the ultra featherweight Saucony Hattori into my lineup. This shoe feels SIGNIFICANTLY better in every way from the upper to the scarce rubber covered foam sole. Overall construction is top notch--exactly what I would expect from Brooks Flagship Line.

Incorrect footstrike is punished with an awkward feel, but a proper midfoot/forefoot strike is rewarded with a quick and responsive toe-off. My Vibram Bikila may be a more form fitting shoe, but the PureDrift feels as connected and just as natural in an extremely attractive package.

I was sad to see the Green Silence be discontinued and I'll still use those for 15+ mile runs, but my PureDrift will be my new daily driver and interval shoe going forward. Looking forward to getting another pair soon to incorporate into my weekly routine. I've done up to an 11-miler in them and they were phenomenal the entire run.

I wear each shoe only one run per week. I average between 60-90 miles per week durng peak training season and I run 2-a-days 4 days per week and cross train 3 days per week all year long. My current lineup includes PureDrift, Saucony Hattori, Vibram Bikila, Green Silence x 5, PureConnect & PureGrit.

This is a very lightweight shoe and the comfort at the forefoot is excellent, allowing freedom of movement in the toes. I bought this shoe to use as a zero offset so I removed the innersole but found it to be uncomfortable underneath with hard bits of stitching at the edges. I chose these shoes to replace my Saucony Virratas which I found too narrow and the sole too spongy. I decided to put the 0mm innersoles from the Virratas in the Puredrifts and they now feel perfect. I titled this as 'initial impressions' as I have only just opened the box and have not yet run in them.
This is my first pair of Brooks shoes so cannot compare with previous models but what I can say is that I'm not at all impressed with the build quality. There were numerous long, loose threads hanging off, bits of visible foam sticking out on the padded bit around the ankles and dried glue where the sole joins the upper. I know that most things these days are thrown together quickly in large factories in the Far East, but these shoes really make you aware of that. The finish is just not great.
Under the innersole, there is a small hole (looks deliberate) up front near the toes but it is only in one shoe. This is a little rough around the edge which could cause problems if wearing no socks. The inside of the upper feels good against a bare foot.
I think the Navband is a bit pointless and gimmicky. The shoes narrow quite abruptly towards the mid to rear foot which is a shame but with the sole from my other shoes in there, it's ok as the foot is just raised slightly.
From the rear, lining up the rear seam of the upper against the centre point of the rubber sole, the shoes are not symmetrical. The soles have not been attached to the upper in the same spot, implying uneven construction between the two. Again, build quality and standards.
The tread pattern, for me anyway, has the firmer rubber bits in the perfect location and seems fairly durable. Very happy with that.
Now that I've put the other innersole in, the shoe feels very comfortable and I am looking forward to running in them.
Overall, lightweight and comfortable (with other innersole), flexible and a good sole but poorly constructed for a top brand shoe. Couldn't recommend fully yet as I haven't run in them but on feel alone, yes I would.

Comfortable & stylish minimalist runner

By Dhalgren

from New York, NY

About Me Casual/ Recreational

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Cushions Impact
  • Good Traction
  • Lightweight
  • Responsive

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Dry Weather
    • Gym

Improving upon the minimalist, eco friendly Green Silence, the Pure series seems experimental, with new types of upper materials and grippy, super flexible soles. Of the Pure series, I like Pure Drift the most. It looks fantastic, and is shockingly comfortable for something so light and flexible. It has a footprint similar to "cross trainers," but it is a runner, as well as a gym shoe. It's so comfortable, I got a spare pair as driving shoes. Well done, Brooks.

I purchased these shoes for my son who runs cross country. He runs an average of 55 miles a week in the off-season and these shoes step up to the challenge. I needed an affordable, yet solid shoe for him since I replace his shoes every 250-300 miles. He states that the shoes are very comfortable and lightweight.I will definitely purchase them again. He has owned other Brooks shoes and Drift is his favorite so far!

A Shoe the Stays out of Your Way

      By Small Man Running Slow

      About Me Avid Athlete

      Pros

      • Lightweight
      • Lots of room for toes
      • Low Drop
      • Minimal Cushioning

      Cons

        • Racing
        • Road Running

I like this even more than the Pure Connect, because of the extra toe room, and the lightness. There's no squishy cushioning, and no gimmicky stuff to "correct" bad form. It's a shoe that stays out of your way.
