The toe-flex outsole pods move independently, giving you tremendous support and flexibility, and the conformable nav-band around the upper wraps your foot in featherweight comfort.

Like our core line, we hold the PureConnect 4 to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction, you can expect shoes the PureConnect 4 to last approximately 250-300 miles.

DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Rounded Heel

What is it?

“Rounded Heel” is just a fancy name that we like to use for the rounded and reduced heel on our shoes. The slight curvature in the heel vastly improves the alignment of your body, encouraging a more efficient stride.

How does it work?

It’s really quite simple. The curvature in the heel works to align the body by shifting the contact point forward. As you hit the ground there is a greater clearance distance under the middle of your heel, which aligns force through the center of your ankle, thus reducing internal stress on your body.

    Comments about PureConnect 4:

so my last pair of pureconnects were run down to the threads with the roe box unraveling like hobo kicks. it's my fourth pair so there's something i like here but this pair seems to have beefed up a bit from the previous version. i'm a mid-forefoot impact runner with a propensity toward lower structure/profile shoes and the pureconnect has been my choice for awhile.

    Comments about PureConnect 4:

I loved the PureConnect 2 shoes so much that I bought several pair. Alas, I could no longer find them online and had to try version 4. Overall, a good shoe. However, it feels very cushy and not as "connected" to the road/stiff as version 2. Bring back the stiffy! I was able to do a long tempo run out of the box with no problems and could probably go barefoot in these. A bit heavier than past shoes, which is odd?

    Comments about PureConnect 4:

These are too cushioned compared to PC2's, but seem better built. Would be comfortable except outside edge (knife edge of foot)is too high causing cramping.

Love the new pure connect. Lightweight feel of the connect 2 with the durability of the connect 3. I like the more comfortable material used on the inside of the shoe. I run my marathons in this shoe and love it.

      nice, but hardly minimal

      Comments about PureConnect 4:

Compared to the original (version 1) Pure Connects, these Pure Connect 4s are quite cushy. This makes sense as the minimal movement is slowly dying away. That being said, the Pure Connect 1 felt really connected to the road/trail, which I miss. But, these work well for me because I use these shoes for both trail and road, and the added cushion provides better traction (on trail, downhill, and wetness) while still being relatively light. I remember when I first put on my Pure Connect 1s. They felt featherlight and I had this energy to run. I'm sad that these are the lightest non-track shoes in Brooks' current line.

On the first few runs, I didn't notice any problems, but after getting up to 6mi, the arch support band caused some blisters in both feet in the same spot. I might have to cut the bands on the inside, but will experiment with different insoles.
