Men's PureConnect 4

$100.00 $65.00

Style #110183

The men's PureConnect 4 lightweight running shoes sports a minimalist profile but have it where it counts. Adaptive BioMoGo DNA in the midsole responds to your every step to provide custom cushion while the rounded heel helps your body move in its natural running motion. The toe-flex outsole pods move independently, giving you tremendous support and flexibility, and the conformable nav-band around the upper wraps your foot in featherweight comfort.

Like our core line, we hold the PureConnect 4 to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction, you can expect shoes the PureConnect 4 to last approximately 250-300 miles.

DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).
  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Rounded Heel

What is it?

“Rounded Heel” is just a fancy name that we like to use for the rounded and reduced heel on our shoes. The slight curvature in the heel vastly improves the alignment of your body, encouraging a more efficient stride.

How does it work?

It’s really quite simple. The curvature in the heel works to align the body by shifting the contact point forward. As you hit the ground there is a greater clearance distance under the middle of your heel, which aligns force through the center of your ankle, thus reducing internal stress on your body.

Compared to the original (version 1) Pure Connects, these Pure Connect 4s are quite cushy. This makes sense as the minimal movement is slowly dying away. That being said, the Pure Connect 1 felt really connected to the road/trail, which I miss. But, these work well for me because I use these shoes for both trail and road, and the added cushion provides better traction (on trail, downhill, and wetness) while still being relatively light. I remember when I first put on my Pure Connect 1s. They felt featherlight and I had this energy to run. I'm sad that these are the lightest non-track shoes in Brooks' current line.

On the first few runs, I didn't notice any problems, but after getting up to 6mi, the arch support band caused some blisters in both feet in the same spot. I might have to cut the bands on the inside, but will experiment with different insoles.

After buying and falling in LOVE with a pair of Brooks Pure Connect 3's about 18 months ago, getting the Pure Connect 4 was a no brainer. The shoes arrived (x-mas gift) and I waited for the weather to warm up to take them for a spin. When I first put them on, I immediately did not like the padded tongue, which made the shoes feel a little 'sloppy' compared to the PC3. Other than that, I was excited. Went out for a run and by mile 3, the toe box on the right shoe had collapsed (crease from the tip to the emblem) and was now rubbing against my toes (between 1st and 2nd toe) with every step. Confident that this was a defect, I went to Brooks for answers. They promptly sent out a replacement paid. The replacement pair immediately had BOTH toe boxes collapse in the exact same manner, this time just by a few steps around the house. The design of the toe box is defective. Brooks has not indicated they have any intentions of correcting this, nor have they admitted it is a flawed design at this time. Very disappointed with this shoe.

    Comments about PureConnect 4:

I focus on short distance running and whole body workout type exercise routines. This shoe is great for making you feel connected to the ground while also providing enough cushion and arch support on paved surfaces. The shoe fits my feet like a glove which am not able to find in any other shoes to date. Although the product details say this is a 4mm midsole drop, your heal feels like it is level with which toes which I love. I only wish the shoe were a little more stylish so I could by 3 pairs and wear them for all occasions.

        Comments about PureConnect 4:

I am only reviewing this specific Men's shoe because they no longer have the Women's PureConnect. I wish they would bring this shoe back for women because it was by far the best, for me at least. I don't understand why they still have this shoe for men but not women. I didn't buy the newest model last year however because the colors were terrible. They looked like a throw of random colors put together. I know it's ridiculous to base your decision on buying a shoe that works for you off the color, but I like them to be able to match anything I wear. Also, being in the military, I'd rather not wear bright pink and purple running shoes in uniform. Please bring back Women's PureConnect, and with more mature color variations! Thank you!

I avg about 25 miles a week. The tongue was so uncomfortable. I had to cut over an inch off after my first run. It left abrasions that took a couple of weeks to heal. These are close to what I need but wouldn't buy again or recommend.

I usually buy the pure cadence. I was seduced by the clearance connect 4's. Bad idea. The toe is really funny. There is a crease beside the big toe that does not feel very good. Kind of like a toe thong. I will buy the cadence next time. Oops.

            Comments about PureConnect 4:

I had a couple pairs of the PureConnect 2s, which I absolutely loved. The PureConnect 3s reversed the design of the "taco" tongue and were just OK. The PureConnect 4s have a traditional tongue. I had been in the PureFlow 4s (traditional tongue as well) for a while and decided to come back to the PureConnect line. For me the size is good and the shoe hugs your foot nicely. Unfortunately, the tongue is really stiff and maybe a little long. When I first put the shoes on, I could feel that the tongue touched the front of my upper ankle, but didn't think anything about it. On my first run, I could feel them digging in a bit at the beginning, and by the end of my 5 miles, they had cut me pretty good. Admittedly, I wear low ankle socks, so the tongue was rubbing directly on my skin the whole time. Not to be deterred, when the shoes are not in use, I use binder clips to keep the tongue folded over and "train" the material so the edge doesn't touch my ankle. I also wear slightly taller socks with these shoes now. Shoes are now OK, but a bit silly that I have to have a weird folded over tongue.
