I'm a gastric bypass patient. 2 years post-surgery. My first 90 pounds came off pretty quick thanks to the surgery but I never reached my goal of 110 pounds so I took up running a year ago and real serious in the last 6 months. Running has allowed me to lose an additional 25 pounds in the last 3 months. When I got serious about my running I went to a local running store (Rush Running) and got a pair of Brooks Ghost 6. I had been running with Nike Air 4.0 off the shelf (Terrible). What a difference. Amazing! So when I started looking for new running shorts I stuck with Brooks. I now have 4 pair and they are perfect. The 3.5 shorts are too short for me and I hate the 7 inchers at my knees. 5 Inch length for me. I have tried the 2 in 1 shorts and I'm not a fan of any brand. Brooks are lightweight, true to size and very comfy. The latest I ordered on sale. I would order Brooks no matter the price but a bargain was nice.

I use these type of shorts for casual running and training. At first glance I like the look and feel of the shorts for warm weather running, but there is one feature that I didn't notice until the shorts got wet. At that point, the material used for the liner causes considerable chafing... Normal sweating caused some minor chafing after ~8 miles, and running in the rain will cause the liner to start chafing almost immediately. I'd compare the feeling to running with sandpaper in my shorts. I'll continue to use them, but only for short distances on non-humid/cooler days.

Perfect for runnning and gym workouts. Everything stays covered. I do have 1 pair that has pulled from the seam at the back and I don't know how to fix it since it is nylon.

When I first started runnning I tried a 9 inch short, but it felt weird running in them. I bought these shorts perfect length for me.

Comments about 5" Essential Run Short:

Great shorts, just wore them in a marathon, very comfortable and lightweight. The only issue is with the way they tie. I think they need grommets to keep the string from sucking into the fabric which makes them hard to untie.

Comments about 5" Essential Run Short:

As a recovering fatboy, these don't ride up on my (beautiful) thunder thighs like other shorts. Short enough to make you look like a real runner with enough coverage to spare my fellow runners from the VIP show. Pockets hold a ton and the zipper is easy to work while under way. Will buy these as long as they make 'em.
