Additional Information

The Cascadia 8 was designed from the gritty, wet, and uneven ground up. Engineered to adapt to the surface and your foot, this versatile piece of equipment runs an ultramarathon and then asks for more. We swapped out the midsole for BioMoGo DNA to create a super cohesive transition and deluxe-ified the Segmented Crash Pad on the lateral side to smooth that heel-to-toe even more. The suede geometric pattern on the upper is a shout-out to past Cascadia designs but also serves the function of wrapping the foot for a close fit.

Don’t just take our word for it: Runner’s World® named the Cascadia 8 its "Editor's Choice" in the Trail Shoe Guide in the April 2013 issue and wrote, "The Cascadia has that rare combination of road-shoe comfort and trail-shoe ruggedness." In short, the Cascadia 8 offers "A well-cushioned and smooth ride on any surface."

Please note: The Cascadia is intended as a trail running shoe. It is not pack-rated and may not hold up to the extra weight and demands of long pack hikes. We’re your go-to option for trail runs, but a sturdy hiking boot would be better suited for the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, or other long pack trips.

This is my second pair of Brooks shoes. I have "duck" shaped feet which are wide at the toes and a narrow heel with high arches. It is almost impossible to find shoes that fit that kind of foot resulting in hours and hours of trying on shoes just to find one pair that usually doesn't fit very well. Most athletic shoes I find extremely uncomfortable with terrible arch support, mostly due to the arches being in the wrong place or the arches feeling like a large lump on the bottom of my foot. Brooks shoes are the only type of shoe of any brand that actually fit my feet! My last pair of Brookes I owned for 6 years and on a recent trip, I invested in a new pair and they fit right out of the box! From now on, I will not buy any other type of athletic shoe. I recommend Brooks shoes very highly.

    Too much shoe for me

I am so used to the Pure project line, that it was difficult to adjust to a more rigid and heavier shoe. I didn't like how it looked either.

I wore them for a 5 day backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon and they held up great. They are so comfy. No blisters or foot pain. There's a roomy toe box and cushioned support. I would definitely buy these shoes again.

Why do they keep changing a perfect product? Loved the 7's, but can't find them anymore. The 8's are the same comfortable shoe, but run bigger than the 7's. If they want to change something, how about deeper lugs for mountains? Still my favorite shoe for trails or roads!!!

Just finished up a thru hike of the CDT wearing only these; used about 4.5 pairs of them for the summer. Not sure why they insist on the disclaimer above (nay, why they actually encourage heavier boots!?!) -- they are probably THE MOST POPULAR SHOE ON LONG TRAILS right now. On the PCT, everyone I hiked with wore these and loved them, so I ended up buying a pair to try out on the Tahoe Rim and West Coast trails, and they were awesome. Think of long distance backpacking as running an ultra day after day after day for five months -- our packs are under 30 pounds, so stability and support aren't really the argument. Wide toe box, not too meshy and not too hot, durable, nice traction and lightweight = ideal backpacking shoe. (FWIW, I replaced mine after about 500-650mi)

Super comfortable from the first run. My only complaint is that one of the eyelets broke, as another reviewer noted. Four of the eyelets are basically thin cord that has been glued between 2 layers of the shoe upper. I didn't have time to return the shoes before a run, so I just sewed in a new eyelet with fishing line - works just fine, however, I expect better workmanship in an expensive running shoe. Brooks should make the next version of the shoe with all the eyelets punched into the shoe material or webbed eyelets that are securely sewed in.

Works great on trails, roads and uneven surfaces. I like that they are wide and provide good stability. They work great on mud. slippery and rainy conditions. This is my third pair and I'm still a fan. Would love to have more color options.
