Additional Information

Designed from the ground up, the Cascadia 7 defines what a trail shoe should be: rugged without sacrificing runnability. Infused with Brooks technology and a bit of insight from ultrarunner Scott Jurek, this amazing piece of equipment features an asymmetric upper that anatomically wraps the foot with conforming materials, a ballistic rock shield and toe protector for dicey terrain, and four-point pivot posts that act like a suspension system for your feet. Top it off with an intuitive lug pattern and this trailblazer is ready to tackle even the toughest terrain.

Please note: The Cascadia is intended as a trail running shoe. It is not pack-rated and may not hold up to the extra weight and demands of long pack hikes. We’re your go-to option for trail runs, but a sturdy hiking boot would be better suited for the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, or other long pack trips.

These shoes came in 2 days before a 50-K trail run. Knowing you don't ever wear shoes right out of the box for a race, I decided to wear these anyway because my old Cascadias were ready for retirement, having run a 50-mile, 50-K and numerous training runs up to 30 miles. I did this because my last 2 pairs of Cascadias were problem free from the start so I had confidence. These are the best rendition of the shoe ever. I life the way the laces follow the curve of your foot. These are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. The 50-K I did had rugged limestone outcroppings, pavement, loose flint rocks, hard clay surface and deep mud, and these shoes handled all of it. I was one of the few who did not go down in the mud. After the race I had no foot issues, no blisters, no black toes despite being undertrained for the race. Hats off to Brooks for another classic! One issue I have with all Brooks shoes is the laces like to come undone but you can solve this by double knotting.

For years I aspired to run with Cascadias, as my trail running friends raved about them, but they didn't fit me due to my 2E wide foot. Finally, the Cascadia 6s came out with a wide toe box and I got my first pair. I loved them for their durable design, good grip, excellent support, protection from rough terrain and good moisture management in wet conditions.

When my 6s reached their end (worn down grip), I picked up the brand new 7s, but was disappointed after my first long Sunday run. It was a rainy day and the grip on wet rocks and branches was noticeably inferior to the 6s. Even worse on the pavement between trails! The grip didn't improve over time. Also, as I wore them longer, they seemed to get narrower with the curved shape and now I get a baby toe blister on pretty much every run - on my smaller foot.

There are some pros such as a protective box, stable feel and good moisture management.

My advice for people living on the rainy coast; or somebody with a wider foot - get the Cascadia 6s while you can.

What I Needed

By MtSptMan

from Southern West Virginia

About Me Casual/ Recreational

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Cushions Impact
  • Durable
  • Good Traction
  • Lightweight
  • Space In The Toe Box

Cons

  • Hot Spot
  • Lacing

Best Uses

  • Approach Shoe
  • Daily use
  • Dry Weather
  • Light Hiker
  • Trail Running

I use this shoe daily and as a trail runner. I also use it for light mountain climbing. I had owned the Cascadia 6 shoe and my only complaint was they were slightly big and as they wore down the inner support went away. I didn't buy the 8s because I had heard of lacing issues and when I tried them on they didn't fit as well as the 7s. My main complaints with the 7s are that the asymmetric lacing makes it a little difficult to custom fit it to your foot and also there is a slight hot spot over the knuckle of the big toe. Still, over all a great shoe and would buy another pair right now if I could.

Good shoe -- right for my feet??

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Cushions Impact
  • Durable
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Poor Stability
  • Poor Traction

Best Uses

  • Trail Running

The shoe itself seems well-made, sturdy. Feels comfortable. Has good cushion, but not too much. I run a combination of trail and pavement -- cushioning seems good for that. I run 12 to 15mi/week. First Brooks shoe I've had; tried it because the brand of shoe I've used for years has gone down in quality. BUT though the quality of the Brooks is good: 1) it is less stable than my previous shoes. A couple times my ankle turned out, nearly spraining it a couple times; never happened in my previous shoes. This may be because it is cut low around the ankle; my previous shoes came up just a bit higher to provide more support -- seems like a good thing in a trail shoe. 2) The traction isn't as good on loose dirt, gravel, sand.

Wish thy came in more stylish color options. 4 point pivot system is unreal and really helps me deal with irregular surfaces on a trail. Very light and supple. Very rugged. Breathes well.

Will use for trail running, hiking, and running in poor weather. Overall, a nice shoe for those things, but I'll stick to my normal running shoes for my distance and speed work-outs.

The shoe fits true to size. Excellent tracking on the trails. I over pronate and find the shoe stable and well cushioned. Only down side is they do not work as well on pavement, but that isn't why I purchased them. I have a short run on pavement before I hit the trails and can tell a difference. I really like the offset laces and the tongue control on the shoe.

Great shoe at a great price. Brooks got this shoe right.

I bought these for an every day outdoors shoe that will take a beating. They are comfortable and durable. I have wanted these for a while and so far they have exceeded expectations. I have some issues with my right foot, that make them a little narrow, but other than that, it is a great shoe!

Have enjoyed the Pure Flows a lot and was looking for another great shoe but this time for the trails. Fit is just as comfortable as my Flows, which is a big plus. My feet in the forefoot are more on the wide side and with an average heel size, and these acomodate them well. Have used them a lot for trail use and they have been great. Also wear them for daily use when they are not covered in mud and have been just as comfortable as my other Brooks. The only suggestion that I would have for Brooks is to make another version with the option of Gortex for the winter and rainy seasons, I would be the first in line for that version! My feet thank you for another great shoe!
