Additional Information

Originally introduced in 1976, the Brooks Vanguard captures the essence of the 1970's running boom utilizing clean design lines, rich aesthetic, and classic styling with an iconic T-toe. The Vanguard features a real pigskin upper, as well as Brooks iconic Octopi outsole for traction, which has been recreated along with a pebbled Chevron and heel tab for opulence. The Vanguard is the signature shoe in the Spring 2014 launch as it embodies the running past and fashion-forward approach the Heritage collection defines itself by.

Please note: The Vanguard pays tribute to its original design, but this modern refresh is not a performance running shoe. As everyday kicks, you may wish to choose a half size smaller than your Brooks running shoes.

I too bought the shoes thinking they would be red. I was disappointed with the dusty pink but still liked them enough to keep them. Initially they felt kind of lightweight and cheap for the price, but they've been great. I do appreciate light weight feel and comfty sole. I also LOVE the retro style and having a cute suede shoe from Brooks to wear around when I'm not running. I hope Brooks continues to offer retro casual wear shoes.

I normally wear a 7 and have somewhat wide feet, so I ordered a 7.5, which ensured I had plenty of toe room. For the record, I saw the film by Bob Anderson called A Long Run (he's the creator of Runner's World) and whenever they showed pictures of the shoe review from the 70s, there were the Brooks that looked like these with the same retro box these come in. I thought that was awesome. Like I said, I hope they keep some of the retro casual apparel/shoe options.

Based on other reviews I sized a half size up, but those were too big so I returned for my usual size. The toes are a bit narrow and the shoe feels a bit tight overall, but I decided to keep them. They are supportive and I love the look of the shoe. I'm just crossing my fingers that they will loosen up with wear.

    Comments about Vanguard:

I bought the fuschia in a size 8. While at first they felt a bit snug they actually started to feel better the longer I wore them. I'm glad I decided to stick with them because after I first tried them on and they felt tight I decided to send them back. But I waited two weeks, tried them on again and decided to commit to keeping them. I usually wear a size 8.5 with my Brooks Launch for running. But for my casual, walking around shoes I stick to my normal size 8. I'm glad they were out of the gray color, which I originally wanted. It forced me to buy a brighter color, which is good to brighten my wardrobe. They are fun and comfy for my casual shoes. I like the vintage vibe.

          Comments about Vanguard:

I bought these shoes in the Vanguard gray and they are super stylish and go with everything. I wanted a sporty shoe that I could run errands in, take my kid to the park, and walk in. I wear them with skinny jeans, leggings, shorts, etc. They're not as cushioned and sturdy as some other running shoes, so they wouldn't be my first pick to run on the concrete with. However, they are great for a more casual shoe for low impact. Love the retro look.

I thought this was a great looking shoe but I wear a size 11M and this was a full size too small - it ran very short and it seemed a tad narrow as well. I really like the style so I may try the men's version of this shoe.
