Originally introduced in 1976, the Brooks Vanguard captures the essence of the 1970's running boom utilizing clean design lines, rich aesthetic, and classic styling with an iconic T-toe. The Vanguard features a real pigskin upper, as well as Brooks iconic Octopi outsole for traction, which has been recreated along with a pebbled Chevron and heel tab for opulence. The Vanguard is the signature shoe in the Spring 2014 launch as it embodies the running past and fashion-forward approach the Heritage collection defines itself by.
Please note: The Vanguard pays tribute to its original design, but this modern refresh is not a performance running shoe. As everyday kicks, you may wish to choose a half size smaller than your Brooks running shoes.

I love these shoes. I wear a women's 10 and a men's 8, and the 8 fits perfectly. The burgundy looks great and overall the retro look is perfect. I wouldn't mind a little more arch support, especially because there's not room to add a inserts. My only other concern is that they're so squeaky! I think k they'll be better once I break them in a little more. Overall a great shoe for casual wear.

Love the look of the vintage line. The originals back in the 70s were my first real running shoes in high school. The web site stated to buy them a half size smaller than what you run in, but I stayed with my 11 running size. They were still very narrow which I don't remember the originals being and still about a full size too small. I will get another pair when I can find a store that carries Brooks that I can try on and find the correct size that I need. Otherwise I think it will become a few series of back and forth the set the right size.

Comments about Vanguard:
I didn't buy these for running. Having recently moved from a very un-walkable city, to Seattle, where I walk everywhere, I realized quickly that it's time to retire the Vans. These are great, comfortable, casual shoes that are perfect for lots of walking.

The retro styling is good. All of the Vanguard line are horrible cheap shoes.
There only use is fashion. Do not waste your money.

Comments about Vanguard:
These shoes look awesome and are super comfortable, but are definitely meant for casual wear and not training. Fit runs about one full size smaller than dress shoes, but the same as I wear in another northwestern based athletic brand.
