Additional Information

When you want nothing to come between you and the trail, the ultra-light PureGrit won't get in your way. We constructed an outsole with an aggressive, multi-directional lug pattern for better grip on the ever-changing surfaces of adventure. Its concave shape delivers better balance by splaying out upon impact and creating more surface area for ground contact. With blazing colors, you'll light the trail on fire. Metaphorically.

We’re not the only people thrilled with the changes: Runner’s World® named the PureGrit 2 “Best Update” in the Trail Shoe Guide in the April 2013 issue. Sure, the editors noted the updates to the upper, what with the thinner and lighter materials, asymmetrical lacing, and burrito-wrap tongue. But as they wrote, “it’s underfoot where we noted the most meaningful change. The first version of the shoe had a clever outsole pattern that held well on loose dirt, but its swirly, pointed tread proved slick on rocks and roads. This update gets a more traditional design – diamond-shaped lugs have sharp edges that bite into nearly any surface.”

Just like our core line, we hold PureProject to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction and fewer materials, runners should generally expect shoes from the PureProject line to last approximately 250-300 miles.

The PureGrit 3 is now available – now with a contoured outsole and more aggressive hex lugs for better grip.

These feel light...weighing less than my usual road trainers by an ounce. (Weight makes a big difference, especially in racing if you encounter water, as anyone who has ever ran in very wet shoes knows!).

These are part of Brooks Pure line and are designed with a 4mm heel-toe drop. There is good arch support within them, but they still maintain a "natural" feel. The asymmetrical lacing feels comfortable, and once laced, I don't notice them again.

Compared with Brooks Cascadia8, these are a sleeker, nimbler model. The Cascadias feel more like a rugged hiking/running shoe with a wider toe box (too wide for my foot), but the PureGrits fit more closely with less sole and bulk to the upper.
How they performed
I was able to test the PureGrit2 shoes on a variety of trail surfaces: gravel, bark, grass, packed dirt and slick mud. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I was unable to test them in loose sand, snow or icy surfaces.

The hardest test for the shoes was certainly mud, but in my 7 mile run with mud I lost traction only twice- both times going downhill on a very slick slope, and only momentarily. Overall, they handled very well on each trail they were worn.

I've been a Nike shoe wearer for years. I read so many raving reviews about Brooks and how they are THE BEST running shoes. So I bought a pair at a running expo. I have worn these shoes over 20 times; running, walking, to work etc to try and break them in. There hasn't gone a day that they haven't given me blisters. I have blisters on the back of my heels every time I wear them. At first, I thought it was just because they were new and needed to be broken in, but after wearing them this many times I think that problem should have gone away.
I went back to my old Nikes and am still on the search. This pair will only be worn because I feel guilty for how much I spent on them; not because they are comfortable.

Comments about PureGrit 2:

I run about 25 miles a week in these. I love the tread, the design, and the comfort of this shoe. I don't love that the blue foam at the toe section ripped apart after using for less than two weeks. Or that the mesh screen on the side of the shoes accumulates dirt and debris. Or that the soft interior lining picks up seeds like nobody's business! A mixed bag for sure. Hoping for improvements in the next version of the shoe.

    Comments about PureGrit 2:

I first tried the PureGrit 2 two years ago after destroying several pairs of New Balance trail shoes relatively quickly. I have never been a big fan of Nike for running as I tend to stick to the trails. Friends were always telling me how they loved Brooks running shoes so I decided to give them a try.
Great online shopping experience, the shoes came very quickly, and they fit like a dream. I didn't have to spend very long breaking them in and they quickly became the best running shoe that I have had thus far. The width and support are perfect for my somewhat weak knees and they translate well onto pavement. The grip is perfect for trails and isn't overwhelming when you hit a sidewalk or street. I would typically run 3-11 miles on the trails and I never got one blister. They are lightweight and breathable so no stinky feet!
I am now on my second pair since I became pregnant and my feet grew a half size! They still fit perfectly and I don't think I will ever be looking for another running shoe. Highly recommend!

    Comments about PureGrit 2:

I have owned and been quite happy with several pairs of pure grit I. The heel tab on the pure grit 2 is too high and rubs my skin raw. I will not be able to wear these very expensive shoes. Brooks basically told me "good luck finding new shoes." Thanks, Brooks!

        Comments about PureGrit 2:

I've had these shoes for about half a dozen runs so far, and really like them.

Pros: Grippy, lightweight, comfortable while running, seem sturdy, good for forefoot strikers

Cons: There is a crease near the base of my big toes that is REALLY uncomfortable while walking but somehow disappears while running; Not sure how long the laces will last - already there's a broken stitch to the side of one of the eyeholes, but hopefully the laces and eyeholes themselves will last longer
