Additional Information

Neutral to Guidance runners can experience a run for the senses without losing the comfort of dynamic cushioning. The PureFlow brings a little more shoe and a whole lot of technology to a slick aesthetic. With a wider Nav Band coming up the lateral side and grabbing the midsole, the foot receives arch support without the bulkiness of underfoot materials. A center strike pod provides guidance in finding the natural landing zone, and modern air mesh wraps the foot for an incredibly comfortable fit.

Runner's World named the PureFlow its "Best Buy" in the Spring Shoe Guide in their March 2012 issue, calling it "a lightweight yet durable shoe that's a steal at its price point" and adding that 80 percent of their testers with normal arches and efficient biomechanics "gave the flow their highest-possible performance rating."

Just like our core line, we hold PureProject to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction and fewer materials, runners should generally expect shoes from the PureProject line to last approximately 250-300 miles.

Fitwise, these shoes had a nice roomy toebox and actually were a bit longer than other Brooks shoes I've tried. The other Brooks shoes I've run have just fit with thin socks – not uncomfortable, just didn't work with socks that had heavy forefoot cushioning. With the PureFlows, I felt like no sock was off limits.

When you run in size 13s like I do, you kind of expect a heavy shoe – that's not the case with the PureFlows. Incredibly light but still cushioned, perfect for a bigger runner like myself.

Even though the cushioning does its job well, you never feel like you've lost contact with the ground. I ran with the PureFlows on the treadmill, street, sidewalks, gravel trails, and singletrack, and felt comfortable in all situations. Grip was adequate in a variety of footings, including some sucky mud on a wooded trail.

I'm not sure how many miles I've put on the PureFlows, butt they still look and feel brand new out of the box, pretty amazing after the variety of surfaces I've thrown at them. These are really well built and high quality shoes.

I bought these shoes since I absolutely love my Brooks Green Silence and good old Cascadias. I had also heard Scott Jurek had a hand in their design, which, as it turns out I am hoping he did not. I normally run about 40 miles during the week then a 20-30 mile run Saturday on a mix of asphalt, dirt roads, and single track trail. Other shoes I routinely run are the aforementioned Green Silence, and oddly, HokaOneOne's Bondi B. The Pure Flow looks great out of the box, but once you get it on your foot it is a different story. It has this odd elastic band under the laces, that goes over your foot, supposedly to provide lateral support, but it does nothing, it is actually completely loose on my foot, and if it were not for the laces holding it against my foot it wouldn't make contact at all. I can feel no improvement in motion or flexibility with the new sole design. The padded heel collar is a blister waiting to happen if you do not routinely wear socks. I am still running these in my weekly rotation, hoping they will grow on me. In the mean time I have purchased another pair of the Green Silence and intend to wear them at the JFK 50 next month and probably at the Umstead 100 next March as well. Run Happy, Run Free!

For me, this is the perfect running shoe. The toe box is wide, it is light, and flexible with just enough cushioning. The 4mm heel-toe drop has worked well in eliminating a sore forefoot that I got when running in conventional heel-drop shoes. I'm evidently a light foot striker because my first pair lasted over 600 miles before being relegated to treadmill use only. My second pair now have over 450 miles on them and are going strong. I have not tried the Pure Flow 2's but unflattering reviews of that model have me purchasing as many of the original as I can while they are still available. I've transitioned from Saucony to Mizuno to Ghost 3's to, finally, your Pure Flow. I'm 58 and ran 7 marathons, 2 half marathons, 1-10K, 2-5K's, and another 1000 miles of training, last year, in this shoe and had my best year, overall, since I started running six years prior. Thank you for this great product.

I've had my pair for a year now. Worn out at the bottom because I take heavy steps when I run. I like the way it feels when I'm running on dry road. Very comfortable and allowed me to run further than ever before. I would recommend this shoe to anyone looking for the a pair. It's worth a try.

As an overweight, beginner/intermediate runner, I love the cushion and support these shoes give. They do feel a little narrow in the width, but I think this is to help support my arch. They are light on my feet. Would recommend these to anyone.

The best running shoe I have run with

I was looking for a lighter, more minimalist shoe that still had some cushioning. Combined with the 4mm heel-toe drop, these were the perfect answer for me. These features, with the wider toe box, relieved the front foot pounding and soreness I was getting with the higher heel drop shoes. I'm a mid-foot striker and I run 'light footed' (hearing the other runner's foot strikes over mine) and these have lasted me just over 600 miles of training and marathon running. I haven't tried the PF2's but the reviews for them don't look very positive. Right now I'm stocking up on the originals as I am able.

I have three pairs of these shoes. I bought my first pair to tryout and while the shoe is not identified as being a high mileage shoe, I already have 500 miles on my first pair. The cushioning has taken some compression but is still providing comfort and cushioning for me at 190 lbs. Daily mileage is about 7 - 11 miles. That the shoes have lasted as they have is simply awesome. The toe box is really roomy and for a mid-foot striker the shoe provides a cushioned and stable platform to run on. The soles have also been quite durable. With the durability the shoes may have given up a little wet traction. There is also an elasticized strap running over the top of the mid-foot section. This feature doesn't do much as it is not a snug fit by itself on my foot. That might be a good thing as for those with larger feet the strap might result in being too tight and therefore uncomfortable. This type of elasticized component is difficult to get to work properly with all foot types. The split toe design is interesting but because the mesh structure is stiffer around and under the toe box it really doesn't allow for true independent motion between the two sections. However, I don't know if that makes a huge difference at the end of the day and for me, the shoe has been a real pleasure to run on.

      Just bought my third pair

I really love my Brooks Pure Flows. They are extremely lightweight and comfortable. They also have a wider toe box than the Pure Connect, which fits my foot much more comfortably. I run about 45-50 miles a week, and use these shoes for about half of my mileage. I use them mostly for speed work, tempo runs, and short to medium (up to 10 mile) runs. These are also my racers for 5ks to half marathons.

The reduced drop (4mm) promotes a more natural running style, which I love. However, adjusting to the reduced drop may take some time. It was probably a month before I could use these shoes on a regular basis as I had grown used to heel striking during my childhood running days, and the reduced drop blasted my calves my first few times out on them. Don't be afraid to ease into these shoes as I did, they worked extremely well for me in the long run. I just ordered my third pair, so I would obviously recommend them to a friend.

Do not buy until Brooks makes the shoe wider. I should have listened to the other reviews. It's too bad, because the shoe is light with good cushioning.
