Additional Information

Embrace lightweight without losing cushion in the get-up-and-go women's PureFlow 3. We've fine-tuned features like a more rounded heel, sculpted the medial side while integrating a wider Nav Band, and repositioned the Toe Flex to better align your stride. So all you feel is the sweet cushion in your running shoes, and all you need is the open road.

We’re not the only people going with the Flow: Runner’s World Magazine named the PureFlow 3 its "Best Update" in their March 2014 issue. The editors praised new design for its smoother landing, more flexibility in the forefoot, and improved fit; calling the PureFlow 3 "a bargain-priced trainer that handles a lot of miles."

Just like our core line, we hold PureProject to the industry’s highest weartest and durability standards. Because of their lightweight construction and fewer materials, runners should generally expect shoes from the PureProject line to last approximately 250-300 miles.

DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Rounded Heel

What is it?

“Rounded Heel” is just a fancy name that we like to use for the rounded and reduced heel on our shoes. The slight curvature in the heel vastly improves the alignment of your body, encouraging a more efficient stride.

How does it work?

It’s really quite simple. The curvature in the heel works to align the body by shifting the contact point forward. As you hit the ground there is a greater clearance distance under the middle of your heel, which aligns force through the center of your ankle, thus reducing internal stress on your body.

I'm a big fan of the Pureflow 2. So when these came out, I was due for new running shoes and purchased these. I just received them so I have not run in them.

However out of the box, the first thing I noticed is the color is not as pictured. The shoe is black (not charcoal), with fushia accents, and a very dark silver sole (not white). To be honest, I probably would not have purchased this (or at least this color) had I known it was black.

The toe box also feels tighter both in width and height. I really like the roomier toe box and that is why I preferred the pureflows over the other pure project models.

I will post more after a few runs, but I'm undecided about the shoes from first impressions.

I have been a marathoner for years, and recently switched to triathlons, training for Ironman this summer. I have been a Brooks lover for all those years, especially when the PureFlows came out, I finally could run pain free and my times were much faster than with previous shoes. I LOVE the PureFlow 2's and have bought almost 6 pairs of them in the past 1.5 years. The changes made to the PureFlow 3's are ridiculous. This is an almost minimal shoe, lightweight, made for mid-foot striking. WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE IT TO A NARROWER sole for people who have all the impact mid-foot!? I am disgusted by the 3's and hope that Brooks re-thinks their PureFlow design. Who tests these shoes? If you are mid-foot striker then a wider base is ideal. Making a narrower shoe is counter-intuitive. I hope Brooks goes back to the PureFlow 2 base, otherwise once I can't find the 2's I'm looking for another brand.

Comments about PureFlow 3:

This is my third pair of the Pure Flow 3's. Usually these are perfect right out of the box, but this pair hurt both of my feet on the inside by the second to last lace eyelet. Shifting my sock around helped somewhat, but only temporarily. A week later, my feet still feel bruised near my ankles. Hoping they will work tomorrow. Not sure why this pair feels so different, but it is disappointing. I also wish I could get more than 200 miles out of them before they feel deflated, but those first 200 miles are usually magical!

    Comments about PureFlow 3:

I hurt my ITB several years ago and have had right knee pain ever since. I recently read about lower heel-toe drop shoes in a Wall Street Journal article about gait analysis which prompted me to check out this type of sneaker. I love this sneaker! It has more stability and cushion than I thought I would get. It hugs my foot in the right places, mostly midfoot, and has a nice size toe box. It took a mile to get used to the feel- definitely different than my Asics- but I really love them.

      Comments about PureFlow 3:

I'm a fitness walker who trains for 10K and Half Marathon distances. These are absolutely the best shoes for walkers. The rounded heel makes for a good stride, and they are so comfortable. I keep two pairs for training and rotate them every two weeks. About three weeks before a race, I purchase a new pair for race day and then continue to use it for the next race's training. Great shoe!
