I was in love with the PureConnect 1s (I had two pairs). They were everything I wanted in a running shoe -- perfect fit, like clouds on my feet, but responsive enough to feel the road. I have a narrow foot, and it seems every shoe on the market boasts about its wide toe box. Why don't they make narrow sizes!? I tried the 2s on in the store and then went home to try to scour the internet to stockpile 1s (to no avail).

I hoped the 3s would be better, more like the 1s, and I am satisfied enough to have kept a pair. I am still not a fan of the taco wrap, would prefer a tongue like the 1s had as these are less adjustable in the midfoot. But they are comfortable and the rubber on the bottom is better placed.

I had been wearing a different brand of shoes for years and with walking, they were okay. But, I started running and my knee started hurting. I did some research and realized I had a higher arch and needed better arch support. I Googled shoes with a higher arch and found Brooks. Armed with this new informtion, I tried on all of the Brooks shoes at the store and the Pure Connect 2 fit like a glove. I have had no complaints with them. I love everything about the shoe with a perfect fit throughout the entire shoe. They have been absolutely perfect for me. I would not change a thing in the Pure Connect 2's. I tried the Pure Connect 3's at the store the other day and found them too wide in the toe box. I tighten them to fit me better and the seam that runs around the toe box rippled hurting my foot. Now, I would not consider myself to have narrow feet. I did not like the seam that ran throughout the toe box. It rubbed and hurt my foot as I ran in them. Please please keep the Pure Connect 2 around or bring them back if they are gone. They were perfect!!! Why don't you just make a wider version of the Pure Connect 2's for those with wider feet and make them in new colors :) Please!! :)

Brooks Broke My Heart

      Comments about PureConnect 3:

Dear Brooks' Design Team - Why did you break my perfect shoe?!?!? I first began running in Connects just weeks after the 1st generation was released. Since then it has been my "perfect shoe" - my go-to for speedwork, long runs- even my marathon shoe. I was nervous when I saw the changes with the Connect 3, and it turns out, for good reason. The very things that made the Connect 1 and 2 my "perfect shoe" have changed - the toe box is wider, the sole is clunkier.. it just doesn't feel like a Connect. My first run in the 3 was four miles - I didn't feel as connected to the ground, the shoe didn't "disappear" on my foot as before, but all in all it didn't seem like a bad shoe. My second run, six miles, ended with aching feet and knees. I will be returning these shoes. I have tried on probably at least a dozen different shoes looking for a replacement but nothing compares to the good old Connects. I will be buying as many Connect 2's as I can... holding my breath in hopes that Brooks will realize a mistake has been made... PLEASE bring back (or keep making) the old style!!!

        Comments about PureConnect 3:

After running in both the PureConnect 1 and 2, I was excited for the 3...until I tried it.

The 3 is much wider and the band around the mid-foot left a blister on my arch after only running 3 miles on a treadmill.

I have a narrow foot and the 1 and 2 fit like a glove, the best fitting running shoes I had ever tried. My only complaint, they seem to wear out quickly. The 3 is much wider, doesn't hold my foot and felt very heavy and clunky. Thank goodness Brooks has a decent return policy.

Please bring back the PureConnect 2. The PureConnect 3 is a huge disappointment!

        Comments about PureConnect 3:

I've been running in the PureConnect 3 for about 2 months now and I'm a little disappointed in the shoe. I have a fairly straight gait (slight pronation on my left foot), so it's a good running shoe for me. I run on a daily basis & am training for a half-marathon (so, I'm not putting too many miles in these shoes).

So, the good: It's pretty comfortable for a light-weight running shoe. I run in a hilly area, so I need good support (which I get) with this shoe. The toe box is fairly comfortable because it is wide, so after a few miles when my feet swell, I stay pretty comfortable & free. In "normal" shoes, I wear an 8; I purchased a size 9 in these shoes & they fit really well; giving me ample room at the toes.

Now the not-so-good: They require a break-in period. I got two nasty blisters on my heal (running in the rain). The shoe sits rather high in the heel, so this causes some friction when running until they break in. I, also, got black nail on my Morton's toe (2nd toe, left foot) and a callus on the top of my right Morton's toe. The material at the toe box, is caved down & the material is stiff. This was all in the same week, but after 2 weeks the shoes loosened up enough to be considered comfortable running shoes. There is absolutely NO traction on this shoe. I have a sloping driveway & slipped and fell while walking down the drive when it was wet out (not soaked). Also, in the rain, you'll notice slipping while running in the street (avoid sleek areas). I've been running in this shoe for about 2 months & am already seeing cracking on the sole of the shoe (in the heel of the left foot). Also, the foam material in the back of the shoe is starting to peel off -- I expect a little more wearability than that.

In closing, I like this shoe but I don't love it. The shoes I had before this had no break-in period, I didn't get ugly toes, & the shoe held up a lot better than this shoe. So, I'm going to go back to those shoes (from a different company)that I really, really liked (not going to mention them because I don't want people to assume that I'm advertising another company).

          Comments about PureConnect 3:

I am a giant fan of the of the Pure Connect! I do a bootcamp class 5 days a week and find the cushion perfect for things like bleacher jumps and the snug fit & lightness perfect for sprints. I am not a runner but ran my first 5k in the Pure Connect 2 last summer and it was a lot easier than I thought. I figure it was the Pure Connect. However, I wouldn't recommend them for a regular runner/jogger because mine were pretty well done after the 5k and I'd only had them about 2 months. I've read that the Connect 3 have been redesigned to last longer, so we'll see about that.

My previous purchases had been the Pure Connect 2 and I searched high & low for more of this version in my size, but alas, there are a lot of big-footed women out there I guess. I was concerned about the Connect 3 because I'd read some poor reviews but I honestly can't find another shoe that I like more, so I decided to give it a try. The first pair I ordered in my size & they were too big by a half size. By the way, if you order from the Brooks site they have this cool guide to help you order the correct size - I ignored it on my first order. I've been wearing my new shipment now for about 2 weeks and I love them just as much as the connect 2. I can't figure out why people were dogging these so bad in reviews.

I'll continue to stick with the Pure Connect. Oh, and they're pretty too!

          Comments about PureConnect 3:

I had three pairs of the PureConnect 2 and they were the best running shoe I have ever owned. After wearing out all three I bought the PureConnect 3. I am disappointed in the way they fit and the arch support is not as good as with the 2. The 3 also feel heavy and clunky compared to the 2. I am going to be in the market for a different lightweight shoe.
