Additional Information

Light, light, and did we mention light? When seconds (maybe milliseconds) are at stake you need shoes that won’t hold you back. That’s why we’ve shaved off every ounce we could with the Mach 14. The result is an internal skeletal structure that secures the foot using minimal materials. Screen print design details get you killer looks without weight, though exceptional traction means you may never be seen.

In the past, the Brooks Mach series has often felt heavy and clunky for racing, but the new Mach 14 is easily one of the better cross country shoes in the market today!

I am a competitive track and cross country athlete, racing distances from 1500m-10k on the track and 5k-10k XC. This shoe is an ideal cross country or longer distance race shoe because the spike plate is flexible enough to allow more movement but stiff enough to propel the foot forward allowing for a natural push off sensation. The shoe is also incredibly lightweight while remaining quite durable.

The only caution I would suggest is to try the feel before buying, if possible. The heel portion of the shoe seems to rise higher than most spikes and creates a sensation that the shoe is "wrapping" about the top of the heel/lower achilles area. I have not experienced any problems as a result of this, but depending on the heel/achilles' constitution, it may be uncomfortable for some.

        Cutting Back on Material

They really cut back on the materials used from the mach 13s to the 14s. This made the shoe light weight and fast. I have high arches and do not wear socks with my spikes however with these I have started to wear socks because I got huge blisters on the tops of my arches. Other than that i really enjoy these spikes and would recommend them to people.

I'm a huge brooks fan and a huge runner. I loved this spike because it has a flexible upper allowing for the width of my foot to not feel cramped. The tongue is sewn to the side with is a good idea but at the same right it makes it harder to get on. It is also a little too flexible for rougher xc courses and could benefit from a carbon fiber mid-foot shank for torsional stability. The arch could be a little more cushioned. It is still a great spike.

I've worn the Mach 11, 12, and 13 for the past three years and I thought those were great. This spike however blows the other three out off the water. By switching to the lighter material it creates the ultimate racing shoe. It's durable, light, and so comfortable. I would definitely recommend this pair of spikes to any cross country runner. I'm probably even going to buy the Mach 14 spikeless as racing flats just because I love these shoes. Another note is that the green is more of a lime green compared to the picture which I personally like.
