I was just released back to running after having my right Achilles tendon completely rupture in March 2010, and bought these as a "Welcome Back" shoe. I've run in Adrenaline 9s and 10s, so this was going to be interesting. I was really surprised at how comfortable and cushioned the Green Silence is. It felt very supportive and stable. The lacing system is kinda weird, but it works incredibly well. I'll definitely use these for tempo runs, intervals, and races. Once I'm back to full strength, I'd like to use these as an everyday running minimalist shoe----they are just that good. Great work Brooks!

Let me start by saying that I wore the green/black Silences most of last year for four of my Tri's including one 13.1 miler & one 9 miler as well as one full marathon.

So I bought the blue/navy Silences for my first marathon of 2012. Three weeks later I am still paying the price with a slight ligament tear on my inner ankle.

The shoes just didn't hold up to the long distance. I should have known going in (it's my fault; not the shoes). But just be aware that this shoe is meant for shorter races. And if you do plan to do a marathon in them, make sure to do lots of training in them first.

    Comments about Green Silence:

I wore this shoe in three races 2-5k's, a 10k and as a tempo trainer. Overall this shoe is lighter than most tempo trainers (i.e. Launch) and is heavier than most racing flats (i.e T7). With that being said this shoe provides enough cushioning for the longer races, but may lack enough support for the longer races. During my 10k I rained heavy for the last two miles and traction was better than I expected. I'm a neutral runner and I consider my stride to be efficient.

I wanted to like the Pure series, but they were too narrow for me. The Green Silence is now my go-to shoe for 5-10k races and track workouts. Great, fast ride with a roomier toe box than most flats/minimalist shoes.

GS provides very good cushioning for such a light shoe. I really love it for 5ks and speed training. As for runs over six or seven miles, I find myself needing a bit more cushioning and prefer the Pureflow.

      Comments about Green Silence:

Love the Green Silence, especially all of the different color options. I was late to adopt this shoe, but it is super comfortable, light weight, and works great for short or long distances. The soles do wear more quickly than my Adrenalines, but I'm going to stock up with a few pairs of these. I would and have recommended for others to purchase these shoes.

      Comments about Green Silence:

This was my 2nd pair - I loved the first ones I got on clearance at a local shop but really wanted a more subtle color than the yellow and red - so I ordered the brown ones from Brooks - love the shoes - lightweight and comfortable. What I like is that they are approaching the free running movement (low heal, etc) but not too extreme - a great compromise. Plus they look cool.

        Comments about Green Silence:

I have a few other reviews on here about the GSs. Now going about my 6th pair. Yeah, 6 pairs of these shoes, that's how much I dig these. I usually do long (10-15 mile) runs about 3x a week and then short runs 3X a week also for Army PT. Only time I wear something different is when we do grass drills. I've tired the T7s, and they're too tight for me, but the GSs are sweet. Go at least 1/2 size larger then what you think you wear, width wise I love them. Check out some of the color selections and try to get the spongy looking uppers, blue/blue, blue/yellow, white/red-orange, red/yellow. These a very flexible-breathable uppers, and my feet tend to sweat alot in the hot months.

Like I said, I run 10-15 miles three times a week, and these last me on average 4 months, I consider it breaking advantage of me, price-comfort-weight-styling. Looking forward to the Pure Blitz, and will try them, but always going to keep the GSs in my arsenal.

My 2 cents????? running shoes don't get any better then these.

Hold onto your old Green Silences, they make excellent crossfit and lifting shoes because they're so flat.

This is a fast and flexible racer. It responds well to your foot. Basically, it lets your foot do what it wants to do without getting in the way. Probably best for the more efficient serious runners, but also a great shoe for those wanting to transition slowly into a more "minimal" shoe.

Only mark against it is that the lacing is a little tricky.

            Comments about Green Silence:

Wow, again! This is now my 4th pair of Green Silences. I've done other reviews for them on here so this isn't new. This time I got the blue/silver(?), and they're just as good as the others. Would stay away from the green model though. The uppers on those are made of a different material and aren't "sock-like" as the other colors are. The R. McDonald, Blue/Yellow, Blue/Silver are made of a almost sponge upper/sock and are extremely comfortable with or without socks. Do go at least a half to full size larger then what you think you wear. Haven't tried the new minimal shoes that Brooks just came out with, and don't know if I will because truthfully I don't think shoes can get much better then the Green Silences. Once again Brooks designers, please come out with a desert combat boot like some of the other shoe companys have, I'd buy them in a heart beat, hell, I'll be your test dummy.

            Comments about Green Silence:

These are great shoes. Bought first pair and enjoyed them so much I now have three, and looking to buy another pair. They fit snug in toe length so buy 1/2 size up. Very low heel, not zero, but still low. Enough cushioning to absorb some impact. I run on average 15 miles every other day, and 2-3 miles on the other days, so I do put in some miles. Big drawback, is they do seem to wear quickly and since I don't like wearing socks with these they're starting to reek, and yes I have washed them. Honestly, best shoe and most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. Wish they'd make a combat boot for me that was 1/2 this comfortable. Recommended to friend...oh hell yeah, the wife has 2 pair now also, as well as friends because of me, and they all love them. Last thing, love the toe box width, plenty of room for toe splay.
