I run 5-10k in tropical heat so any attempts at fancy forefoot/midfoot running quickly degenerates into a relaxed heel-strike. I also run on a concrete path in a large park so cushioning is doubly important.

The smooth ride from the Gycerine is exceptional with no 'slap' on landing and a nice smooth transition even at the end of a 10k run in 99'F/39'C.

In the hand they feel a little heavier than my old Asics Cumulous or the Ghost 6 - but on the feet they feel similar but smoother. Very comfortable uppers feel like a close fitting ski sock and prevent movement and risk of blisters without being too tight.

In the wet they are a bit slippy - but this is improving as I add more miles. I would not recommend them for wet trail running on rocks or on hilly roads but great for flat pavement. Arch support is limited but feels good to me as a neutral runner with average/low arch.

I have wide-ish forefoot and narrow-ish heel and the fit is great. The slightly stretchy (color co-ordinated)laces help to adjust the fit.

Sizing seems true but no half sizes available in Asia. I normally have to go up a full size as my left foot is longer than right and toes can hit the front of the shoe on long runs causing nail pain - but I went for my normal shoe size with the Glycerine and although toe clearance is less than in previous shoes I've not had any issues yet.

The yellow/grey colors of my shoes look great and the bright blue is also nice - but I would have liked the option of a more subdued color scheme so I could wear the shoes to travel and then use them for runs when I arrive (big trainers and hand luggage don't mix).

I'm on the older and heavier side (48/210), so cushioning and comfort are extremely important when looking for shoes. These shoes were great for the first 100-120 miles. I looked forward to putting them on, never any discomfort during run, and never any leg or foot pain during or after run. Unfortunately, I had to retire them by 2 months/180 miles (not close to the expected 300 - 500 miles). Somewhere in the 150 mile range they started feeling loose and sloppy in the toes. By 175 miles the soles were worn out on the balls of my feet and started causing me pain. I NEVER wore these for anything but running, so I didn't lose miles to casual walking.

5 stars for initial fit and comfort, 2 stars for durability. Due to the price, I can't get past the durablilty problem, so my overall rating skews toward the lower rating. I'll be looking for a different shoe that lasts a little longer.

Bad for Certain Strides

Pros

    Cons

      Best Uses

      • Endurance Training

The outside walls got large holes due to my outside of the foot strike. If your natural stride puts a lot of weight on the outsides of the shoe with every stride, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND these shoes for you.

I have been buying glycerins for the past 6 years and have loved them. I also run in ghosts, pure grit, and pure flows. All great shoes but, the glycerins are my go to shoe. They are always comfortable, and provide all the support I need. I always recommend Brooks to my HS athletes and about 90% of them run in them now.

        Great shoe, while they last...

These are great shoes, while they last. When I first started wearing these shoes, they were awesome! Fit great, felt great, feet and legs were happy. 250-300 miles later, I had shin splints galore. Couldn't figure out what my problem was, until I wore my Cascadias for a road run one day. No shin splints then, so I am guessing it was just the Brooks cushioning started breaking down. I actually wore these running in the rain and snow a few times. Suprisingly, they kept my feet dry no matter what the conditions were. I would buy another pair, but I wish they would last for 500 miles at their best.

Not as good as the Glycerin 9's or 7's

          • Poor Cushioning

          Best Uses

I have about 3 weeks and 50 miles on these now, so they are properly broken in. I can say they have a smaller toe box than the 9's and are not as cushioned either. They are lighter, probably due to less cushioning. I have been brusied on the top of my foot because of the tightness. If I were to loosen them any more they would fall off. Very disappointed since my last two pairs fit like gloves and gave me tons of mileage. Hopefully the 12's are better and not far away, or it may be time to try another brand. Price goes up and quality did not, hopefully your experience is better than mine

I run 25-37 miles a week and I've worn a couple of Asics Nimbuses, Mizuno Wave Riders, and K-Swiss Tube Run 100s since I started running years ago, but nothing comes close to Brooks Glycerin 11 when it comes to comfort, cushioning and great over-all feel! It's the best neutral running shoe I've ever owned. I currently have the Gold/Yellow/Gray colorway and my favorite the Blue/White colorway and I'm thinking of getting the orange/gray too. I love this shoe!
