Women's Ghost 7

$120.00 $120.00 - $130.00

Style #120161

The Ghost 7 is a triple threat of balance, cushion, and lightweight materials. Hitting the sweet spot for millions of runners, this neutral running shoe for women gives you the stuff to kick back for miles on end, or lean in and pick up the pace. We’ve maintained the horseshoe-shaped crash pad, full ground contact, and omega grooves in the forefoot for the super-smooth heel-to-toe transition runners love. We’ve improved the multi-award-winning Ghost by making it smoother and lighter. BioMoGo DNA in the midsole offers adaptive cushioning and responsiveness. Bigger lugs in the forefoot make the Ghost feel more responsive as you run. And the look? More modern while remaining technical, thanks to the Ghost’s signature color-shift chevron and no-sew overlays. The Ghost may scare off the competition, but it’s plenty friendly to your feet.

DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

I tried different Brooks running shoes (some of which are more highly recommended by Runner's World), and found that the Ghost shoes work best for my feet. I am a marathon runner. They give me the support I need for my feet. I have never been tested-this is based on self-experimentation. But, I have sone quite a few races and have been successful with these shoes. My only problem with these shoes is they seem to wear out quickly. I know it's time to replace them when my knees start to hurt. Currently, I have two Ghost 6 and two Ghost 7 and I rotate my shoes becuase I run 5 days per week. The last Ghost 6 I purchase (mid-summer) is losing its support ability and will need to be replaced soon. I also run on uneven pavement and "groomed" unpaved trails, and these shoes give me the support I need on these surfaces.

Don't mistake me: this is a very good shoe. I started training in these a bit less than a month ago, alternating with my old shoes to avoid blisters (an unnecessary precaution since these are a great fit - no chafing or rubbing anywhere, lovely and light).
However: even though I have hardly trained with them yet, the lining around the ankles is already worn through. I have never had that problem on my previous shoe. I cannot believe after 6 or seven shortish (between 5 and 20k) runsthe lining should already be giving way.

This is my first running shoe that does not stand friction. Taking it back to the store tomorrow. A real pity, apart from that, I loved these shoes

Comments about Ghost 7:

The Ghosts are a great all-around running shoe. I use them for easy runs ranging anywhere from 3 to 10 miles. I use them on a mix of pavement, treadmill, and crushed gravel trails, and they perform well on all surfaces. They are well-cushioned, but do not feel like mush. My one concern is the outsole durability. I only have about 50 miles on the shoes so far, but am already noticing wear on the outsole. I'm 5' and weigh 107lbs for reference, so I'm not very hard on shoes.

        Comments about Ghost 7:

I have bought Ghost 5 and Ghost 6 (2 pairs of each the last two years. I've run in nothing else. My new Ghost 7's are a full size larger or at least they feel that way. Must be a redesign of the toebox or something but when I hold it up next to my old shoes it is visibly longer in length. Not only that but I'm conscious of having to grip down with my toes to secure the ball of my foot since there is so much extra room. This is causing sever pain in my toes and in my arch. I can't wear them anymore and reverted back to wearing my old Ghost 6's that have over 400 miles on them. So sad and disappointed :(

        Comments about Ghost 7:

I can't explain what it is about these but I was just a little disappointed in them compared to my 6's. I had to go up a 1/2 size because they were slightly more narrow. I have narrow feet so generally that isn't a big deal but when running long distances, I like more room in the toes because my feet begin to swell. The Ghost 6s were like Cinderella and the glass slipper. These were just off. I think for those who have no comparison, the 7s are excellent. Brooks makes a solid shoe. I love the color choices!!

        Comments about Ghost 7:

These are my go to running shoes when I need a neutral shoe. Biggest complaint is the lack of color choices lately. Either they are super loud and bright.....or dull with purple. Best one so far was last season when for the first and only time I liked the dark navy and pink color scheme. Wish Brooks would come out with some more options like grey or navy with orange or pink.
