Additional Information

The Ghost 7 is a triple threat of balance, cushion, and lightweight materials. Hitting the sweet spot for millions of runners, this neutral running shoe for women gives you the stuff to kick back for miles on end, or lean in and pick up the pace. We’ve maintained the horseshoe-shaped crash pad, full ground contact, and omega grooves in the forefoot for the super-smooth heel-to-toe transition runners love. We’ve improved the multi-award-winning Ghost by making it smoother and lighter. BioMoGo DNA in the midsole offers adaptive cushioning and responsiveness. Bigger lugs in the forefoot make the Ghost feel more responsive as you run. And the look? More modern while remaining technical, thanks to the Ghost’s signature color-shift chevron and no-sew overlays. The Ghost may scare off the competition, but it’s plenty friendly to your feet.

DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

I tried different Brooks running shoes (some of which are more highly recommended by Runner's World), and found that the Ghost shoes work best for my feet. I am a marathon runner. They give me the support I need for my feet. I have never been tested-this is based on self-experimentation. But, I have sone quite a few races and have been successful with these shoes. My only problem with these shoes is they seem to wear out quickly. I know it's time to replace them when my knees start to hurt. Currently, I have two Ghost 6 and two Ghost 7 and I rotate my shoes becuase I run 5 days per week. The last Ghost 6 I purchase (mid-summer) is losing its support ability and will need to be replaced soon. I also run on uneven pavement and "groomed" unpaved trails, and these shoes give me the support I need on these surfaces.

Don't mistake me: this is a very good shoe. I started training in these a bit less than a month ago, alternating with my old shoes to avoid blisters (an unnecessary precaution since these are a great fit - no chafing or rubbing anywhere, lovely and light).
However: even though I have hardly trained with them yet, the lining around the ankles is already worn through. I have never had that problem on my previous shoe. I cannot believe after 6 or seven shortish (between 5 and 20k) runsthe lining should already be giving way.

This is my first running shoe that does not stand friction. Taking it back to the store tomorrow. A real pity, apart from that, I loved these shoes

Comments about Ghost 7:

The Ghost 5 was my first love, I wish I could get them again. I've ran a few 5-8 mile runs in the new ghost 7s, they just don't seem to be as cushy as their older brother. Surprisingly, they also rub my sock down the back of my heel. I will try to love them, but it's difficult when i'm still in love with the older brother. sigh....

I am a Physical Therapist and really look at the shoe and how it affects the biomechanics. Brooks has always provided a superior product and this shoe is exceptional! I feel that it could even be a good shoe for easy trails due to its responsiveness. Only bit is feedback would be that the shoe-laces tend to come loose quickly unless double tied.

          Comments about Ghost 7:

I use these shoes for the gym.

I have normal/narrow width feet and a low profile/arch foot. I tend to have a lot of 'material' over my arch and toe box area. For example, if I tighten the shoelaces enough to feel secure in the shoe it tends to create bunching over my arch/toe area. These shoes have too much of toebox room for me. My foot feels like it is swimming a bit. It moves/shifts within the shoe when moving side to side. They are an ok fit for me for those reasons. I stick to simple walking, running and lifting weights only with these shoes. They are light and have great cushion during these activities. Overall I like them, they just don't fit my foot as well as I would like.
