Additional Information

The Ghost 7 is a triple threat of balance, cushion, and lightweight materials. Hitting the sweet spot for millions of runners, this neutral running shoe for women gives you the stuff to kick back for miles on end, or lean in and pick up the pace. We’ve maintained the horseshoe-shaped crash pad, full ground contact, and omega grooves in the forefoot for the super-smooth heel-to-toe transition runners love. We’ve improved the multi-award-winning Ghost by making it smoother and lighter. BioMoGo DNA in the midsole offers adaptive cushioning and responsiveness. Bigger lugs in the forefoot make the Ghost feel more responsive as you run. And the look? More modern while remaining technical, thanks to the Ghost’s signature color-shift chevron and no-sew overlays. The Ghost may scare off the competition, but it’s plenty friendly to your feet.

DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

I loved the Ghost 4 , the 5's did not work for me at all and the 6's were fantastic, light, bouncy and a joy to run in.

Let me start out by saying the 7's have a wide toebox, that works for me because I always wear a 12 EE in the Ghost's and this time I had to send them back to get a regular width and they fit fine, so I'm not sure if this shoe will work for everyone depending on your width.

The cushioning is now very soft which may appeal to a wider range of runners however it does not have the bounce and rebound of the 4's and the 6's. They no longer have that sweet spot that made the Ghost stand apart from the pack. That euphoric feeling you get when running in the Ghost is a thing of the past. And I miss it. When I run my daily 5 miles , they feel very comfortable and now very soft, but not very responsive like the previous Ghost models. It is now just a cushioned shoe that feels alot like other brands.

It is still a great high mileage comfortable shoe, it just no longer stand's out as being awesome like the previous models. Hopefully the 8's will bring back that loving feeling that is now gone.

I purchased these at the same time as the Ghost 6 and use both for a week alternating days. The third set of days I did 6 miles in the Ghost 6 and then the next day did 6 miles in the Ghost 7. I now have two huge blisters on both feet from the 7s. The blisters are in the middle of my foot opposite the arches. I just cannot use these they are too uncomfortable. I returned them and purchased another set of Ghost 6. Not sure what I will do when all the 6s are sold out. Maybe I will switch to a different brand because I just cannot use the 7s.

      Comments about Ghost 7:

I run with orthotics and works great. Had Adidas Energy Boost before, which I liked, but these shoes are so much better for running.

I'm probably gonna buy another pair because I fear the next model may change.

Ran 10 km 3 times before reviewing.

        Comments about Ghost 7:

This is my first pair of shoes from the Ghost series. I bought them to replace my Glycerin 12s, which I was disappointed with. I must say, I am much happier in the Ghost 7. It appears that the Ghost still uses the old DNA Gel that they had in the Glycerin 11, a shoe that I loved. The Ghost offers a great cushy ride and feels much less stiff than the Glycerin 12. This is the biggest difference. Both shoes have a good neutral ride, but the Ghost is more comfortable by far ( I have put about 30 miles on the shoes so far). So until the Glycerin series is corrected, I would highly recommend the Ghosts.

        My go-to shoe

        Comments about Ghost 7:

My first Brooks running shoe was the Ghost 6, which I purchased earlier this year and wore in a Spring marathon, where it did me well - I PRed by more than 20 minutes. That marathon and the training leading to it turned me into a Brooks guy (my previous loyalties were to Nike and Asics). I need a shoe with a wide and tall toe box, and the Ghost 6's were nice and roomy for me.

After that marathon I needed some new shoes, and the Ghost 7 seemed like a no-brainer. These are probably my favorite running shoes of all time, and I can see myself wearing future versions as well. The toebox is still perfect for me, and the cushioning is just right - these shoes cushion my feet well enough and are light and responsive just like I like em. I wore the Ghost 7's in the Steamtown Marathon two weeks ago and beat my PR again, this time by 16 minutes. I'm not saying these shoes will give you a PR, but they certainly helped me.

I've been running for over a decade and have cycled through many running shoes, including various models of Nike, Asics, Mizuno and Saucony. I've also worn the Brooks Glycerin (great when you want extra cushioning). I love the Ghost 7 so much I need to get another pair before they are all gone!

P.S. The main reason I checked "wears quickly" is that I wish they would last much, much, longer. I have about 200 miles on my current pair and they are still in excellent shape.

          Comments about Ghost 7:

The Ghost has been my go-to shoe since the Ghost 4. I have run many marathons and I have never had a problem with these shoes. The 7's feel lighter and more responsive. My one complaint, as others have said, is they wear vry quickly. Previous versions have all lasted me greater than 500 miles. However, the outside heel is severely worn on the 7's (two different pairs) at less than 300.
