Additional Information

Can you say THREE-peat? Like the Ghost 3 and 4, the Ghost 5 was deemed "Editor’s Choice" in Runner’s World’s Fall 2012 Shoe Guide in the September issue. Runner’s World described the Ghost 5 as "a versatile shoe that can handle whatever workouts you throw at it" and noting that the Ghost "remains fairly lightweight with a soft heel and relatively firm forefoot, which gives wearers a fast feel.” One wear tester said “I didn’t have that 'squishy' feeling I sometimes experience with cushioned shoes." Another said, "The Ghost 5 has excellent cushioning—cement feels like blacktop, blacktop feels like grass, grass feels like clouds! I was able to feel the ground just fine for a strong ride."

We say the Ghost 5 is so supremely smooth and impeccably balanced, it’s scary. We took the best of the award-winning Ghost 3 and 4 designs, built in new innovations, and then merged it all with striking colors and patterns. This shoe hits the sweet spot for a wide range of Neutral runners with a finely crafted Segmented Crash Pad and anatomical Brooks DNA.

The Ghost 5 is disappearing into the netherworld, and we may not have your size. For a wider selection, check out the award-winning Ghost 6. Can you say Four-peat?

Love the Ghost but hate running in the rain? The Ghost 6 GTX is also available. Everything you love about the Ghost, but with a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® membrane to keep your feet dry and comfortable. No more blaming it on the rain!

I switched from a pair of ghost 3 to a pair of gho5t. The most noticeable difference is the upper. THe ghost 5 upper is much lighter and more breathable. I got the yellow, its a good looking shoe. I run very neutral, I can speak to the durability of the 3's but have only put 10 miles on my new 5's. The 3's held up really well, i ran in rain, snow, crushed limestone trails, road, and on treadmills. The shoe still looks new. I hope the 5's are the same way. I usually put 300-400 miles on shoes before I replace them. The 5's have felt light, responsive and comfortable on 3 and 5 mile runs so far. The other noticeable difference with these shoes is the tongue. The 5 has a much more cushioned and "fatter" tongue. I find that I have to tighten the shoes a little more near the ankle to get the same feel with the 5's as I had with the 3's. Overall I am very happy with the purchase. I love these shoes so far. If I find any faults I will be sure to come back and update this. Happy Running.

Have been using Glycerins but was troubled by some quick wear and increased foot pain. Had an older pair of Ghosts and decided to try these. Big improvement in comfort and reduced pain. Got me moving again. Ordered another pair.

Great Shoes That Improved My Running

      By Jmd90125

I started running much more seriously this year to get active and get back in shape. I do my best to run 3 to 4 days a week and try to average 15 – 18 miles a week. Earlier this year I was going through an injury to my left leg that turned out to be a high ankle sprain brought on by another brand of shoes. As I was looking for relief and trying to work out through my injury, I decided to give the Brooks Ghost 5's a try.

I did a lot of research on what shoes would be best for my running style and be easy on my ankle as I recovered. I have the unique situation that I have a relatively low arch, but I also have a mild supination. I needed a neutral shoe that had enough cushioning for my foot strike. Everything I read said try the Brooks Ghost 5 or 6's. To be honest I found the Ghost 5s for a good price and decided to give them a try.

Running in these shoes has changed my workouts. Not only did I recover from my injury, I was able to add miles while I was doing it. The Brooks allowed me to run pain free. These are great shoes. I have run in them for 3 months and have fixed both pain and form issues with these shoes. My current pair have 120+ miles on them and they still feel like a dream. I'm a heavier runner (200 lbs), so durability is a factor, and these are holding up just great. I'm currently breaking in a new pair to serve as my "race day" shoes, and I bought two more pairs to keep for when these wear out.

Being from NE Ohio I run in all weather and even navigate the occasional patch of slush or snow on my route. I'm very happy running with my Brooks Ghosts and look for many more miles to come.

          My Secon Pair

I know these are on their way out, but if you are looking at the Ghost 6 and can find these in your size, pull the trigger! I was originally waiting on the the Ghost 6 to drop in price, but I did not know when that would happen, so I picked up a second pair of the 5s. I have traditionally experienced knee pain and shin splints when running on asphalt, so much so that my last several pairs of shoes were Adidas trail runners. I ran exclusively on grass. These shoes have eliminated any problems and pain I experienced. I have a very high arch (strong underpronator), and these shoes have been extremely comfortable. My runs range 4-5 miles on average, but I certainly feel that longer runs would be no problem. The shoes are extremely comfortable with a good toe box. They have been durable for me. I've been using them since July and the uppers look new with no separation or ungluing at all. I am sticking with the Ghost line.
