DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).
  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

I am a beginner runner, who is currently running 3 days a week, 1-2 miles each time. I walked into my local running store without a CLUE what shoe would be best for me (again, Newbie here ;) ) Anyway, the man working the counter checked out my old shoes, and evaluated my walking. He told me I have low arches, but no pronation. So he whipped out these shoes, and three other pairs from various companies. I tried them all on, and walked around with them, but I could feel an immediate difference with these. Comfortable, supportive, and they just felt like they were MADE for my feet.

I walked in them a few days, and then joined a local running program. About halfway into our run, I noticed my arches, particularly my right one, were sore. One of the coaches suggested an insert, but I am not entirely convinced I need one yet. I do believe the pain could stem from the fact that I have not run since high school, where we were forced to run a mile. I am not blaming the shoes at this point in time, but Im not going to rule it out entirely either.

One thing that I would have liked, and this is entirely cosmetic, it does not alter my opinion on the performance of these shoes, is more color options. To be honest, Im not digging Navy, and Im not a fan of the magenta detail either. It would have been nice to have more options. Just saying :)

Bought them in November 2014. I find them very comfortable, I work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week. After about 2 months noticed holes in the mesh were my toes are. I have bought all types of sneakers and have never had this problem. I only were them for work. Disappointed.

Please extend toe plate on top of shoes 1/2". The mesh wears through in toe area way too quickly. This is my 3rd pair with same experience.

Comments about Dyad 8:

I asked my SIL who is a nurse what the best "standing on concrete for hours" shoe is and she suggested Brooks. I LOVED their site and the option to choose a shoe based on my personal needs. I didn't even go to the other brand she suggested. The 90 day trial period with free shipping and returns sold me Again!! How could I lose! The shoe I purchased does run small!!! I had to return the first two pairs I received and was super happy with the returns process! I finally settled on a full size larger than my normal size. I've only had them a week but so far I'm very happy with them. Excellent service and wonderful shoe finder. I'm not good with too many choices so the fact that they chose a shoe for me was ideal!

Disappointed. Could not break these shoes in. They are extremely heavy; as a nurse I am on my feet all day long I needed something supportive yet light weight and these shoes are the opposite. They do not last me any of my 12 hour shifts. Disappointed.

Was told by podiatrist to order these after 6 months foot issues. I have a complete supponating foot, so light weight and no motion control necessary. My only issue is that even at a 2E the forefoot feels slightly narrow so the outer ridges of my foot get sore. Overall nice shoe, and cute.

The Dyad 8 8E is definitely much smaller than the Ariel 14 8E. I had to buy hyper thin socks to make the Dyad 8 bearable. The top of the shoe is too tight

I was diagnosed with Mortons Neuroma and got new orthotics. The orthotist does not like his orthotics in motion control shoes. He recommended the Dyad 8. I would go back to the Ariel 14 in a heart beat. still can't walk a mile without pain :( Going to slip my orthotics into my Ariels tomorrow and golf. After 20 years in motion control shoes and Thorlo socks, I really miss them. And less you think I have too small a size, I wear a 6.5 dress shoe. In the Dyad 8, the top of my feet feel swollen. I was hoping that I just got a bad pair, but the second pair is also tight on the top of my foot. The shoes would be more comfortable if I took the laces off.
