Not all runners are created equal. Luckily, the Dyad 8 meets the needs of unique feet from orthotic-devotees to flat-footed ladies. Built on a linear platform, this crazy comfortable trainer doesn’t over-complicate sometimes complicated feet. The women’s Dyad 8 running shoe now includes BioMoGo DNA in the midsole for a lighter, more flexible shoe, no-sew suede overlays for added structure without added stitching, and a plusher in-shoe feel.

DNA Midsole

What is it?

Brooks DNA is an innovative and uniquely adaptive cushioning system. By adapting to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface, DNA offers customized cushioning and adds a spring to your step.

Traditional cushioning takes a one-size-fits-all approach, but we know that each runner is different. Brooks DNA was developed to continuously tailor the level of cushioning to your specific needs – even as they change during the run.

How does it work?

Brooks DNA is made up of a highly viscous non-Newtonian material or more simply put, a material that adapts to the specific force you apply to it. Part of the brilliance is that this compound was engineered to perform at the molecular level (picture millions of resilient 'nanosprings').

If you looked at Brooks DNA through a microscope, you'd see that it's made up of individual molecules connected in strands. These strands (which form chains) react to the amount of force placed on the foot, dispersing pressure and providing resiliency. Bottom line of this physics lesson: You get tailored cushioning that reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait, movement and running environment – "made-for-me" cushioning vs. "one size fits all."

And, as with all good technology, we’ve taken it a step further (two steps actually):

  • BioMoGo DNA is DNA technology blended with the BioMoGo midsole to provide adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole vs. just in the heel and forefoot.
  • BioMoGo DNA midsole includes an organic, non-toxic additive that biodegrades the midsole 50 times faster than traditional EVA when it comes into contact with anaerobic landfill microbes (otherwise known as active, enclosed landfills).

  • 30% more cushioning than standard midsole materials (gel or EVA)
  • Twice as much energy return for more pep in your step
  • Great performance no matter your weight or running pace
  • Smoother transition from heel to toe

Segmented Crash Pad

What is it?

The Segmented Crash Pad customizes your foot's lay-down to provide amazing cushion and smooth heel-to-toe transition throughout the run.

How does it work?

We know that a key component of maximizing your run is to provide the smoothest possible heel-to-toe transition. The Segmented Crash Pad is one technology we use to achieve this goal.

Shaped like a caterpillar, the Segmented Crash Pad is a midsole made up of independent, yet fully integrated shock absorbers. As your foot strikes the ground, the segments work together to customize your individual lay down to provide the right amount of cushion and seamless heel-to-toe transition for you – making the most of all that effort you put into each stride.

This shoe has firm arch support and the thickest cushioning of any shoe I've bought - a nice plus since I'm often on harder surfaces. Runs slightly small so get half to full size larger, especially if you wear thicker socks. The only con, in my case, is poor metatarsal support. Since I, like many with flat arches, can experience metatarsalgia(burning in ball of feet), a good motion control/stability shoe that augments arch support with a metatarsal rise is a nice find. This shoe has the first, not the second. The shoe's firm arch support effectively distributes weight to the front of the foot. Since the front part of insole is flat although nicely cushioned, metatarsal pain is made more acute without support. If you have no issue with ball of foot pain, this shoe would very likely work for you. My favorite shoe is still the GTS 14 -- I should've just picked up a second pair vs. going for the newer Dyad 8. I WOULD recommend this shoe to anyone who needs motion control without issues with metatarsal pain.

Miss the Dyad 7

About Me Casual/ Recreational

  • Poor Cushioning
  • Uncomfortable
  • Wears Quickly

Best Uses

  • Dry Weather

Comments about Dyad 8:

I bought many pairs of the Dyad 7 and was very disappointed in this update. The heel is squishable - as in I have to put a finger against the heel to hold it upright to put my foot in, otherwise the heel has lumps. And yes, I always untie my laces and stretch out the shoe to put my foot in - the heel just is not sturdy.

The interior of the heel is a smooth fabric (the Dyad 7 had a more textured fabric). The fabric has eaten my socks because my foot loves to slide in and out. There are rolls of sock in the back of the shoe that i occasionally pick off.

I also for the first time in my memory have an issue with smelly shoes - I try everything and they still give off a stink. Maybe it's me and my feet, but I don't think I've changed anything.

I had to order a half size larger in these shoes compared to my Dyad 7s but my heels slide out worse than they did.

At this point I will look for a replacement shoe rather than purchase another Dyad, which is unfortunate because they were great for my plantar fasciitis for a few years.

    Comments about Dyad 8:

I have worn Brooks sneakers for a number of years. I have tried different shoes for comfort and support. It seems to me that Brooks should leave well enough alone when they have a good product and it works.
I loved the Adrenlins until they changed them and the Addictions also. Now I am trying the Dyads and so far they are okay but not as good as Brooks usually are.

      Comments about Dyad 8:

I loved the 7s. They were the best shoes I ever ran in. I owned several pair and was ready to try out the 8s but they were very disappointing. I bought my usual size and had to return them because they didn't fit. I had to buy a different size in wide and while they technically fit, they are really uncomfortable especially in the toe box. They pinch and press in weird places and make my toes feel like they are losing circulation while running. They especially press along the top of the toes. The wides feel comfortable there, but the heel slips a little and most of the discomfort occurs in the toes. I'm so disappointed. I will never buy another 8, though I will be happy to try out the next version again if they fix the toe problem.

      Toe box way too narrow

By Ashley the Sad Wide Foot runner

      Cons

      • Narrow / Tight

      Best Uses

      Comments about Dyad 8:

Just like many of the other commenters have noted, the toe box is WAY too small. It seems there was a dramatic re-design between 7 and 8 and now even the very wide (2E) shoe has a much more narrow front half-- its a real shame as Brooks is one of the free very wide foot running shoes that work for me. Definitely avoid if you don't want very smushed feet!
