As a podiatrist and foot surgeon I have recommended this shoe to thousands of patients. Most are 40+ years of age and over weight and pronators. 99% of the time my patients tell me this is the most comfortable shoe they have ever worn! Obviously as a running shoe it cannot be worn by many all day. But if your feet hurt from your other shoe by the end of the day you will be blown away at the comfort. This shoe has the perfect combination of cushioning AND support for the person who weighs more than 175 lbs. For lighter folks Brooks has many other options. I have tried to find a better shoe for the past decade and have not been successful. I have not been compensated in any way for this review. This is just flat out my favorite shoe and a HUGE key tool in my practice. Good luck.

I have somewhat unusual feet. I am a size 15 2E, and wear orthotics. To put it another way, these were the only shoes the sales people were brave enough to recommend to me for exercise.

I have owned three pairs of them now, and the story is always the same; they break, and fast. Now I accept that as a large person who exercises regularly, that I am always going to place pretty strong demands on footwear; if it lasts 3 months, that's excellent in my opinion.

So far all three pairs of The Beast have met the same fate; the thin piece of rubber on the base of the shoe is torn open within a few days of use. I end up with an annoying piece of rubber flapping around, and getting caught on things as I run around. I spend more time trying various glues to reattach the rubber then I spend actually running in these shoes.

The other issue is with orthotic support. If you have half-length orthotics don't waste your time with these shoes. They are horrendously uncomfortable unless you go out and buy a pair of full-length orthotics. Then that just creates another issue; they stretch a outward near the tow and I forever adding pits of cut up innersoul to make them comfortable again. Too much hassle and annoyance.

These are a good shoe, but have some obvious design flaws which should be corrected.

Comments about Beast:

I used these mostly to go to the gym. I would say I probably put no more than 50 miles of running on them. I got them because I have flat feet and need more support because I get bad shin splints. I've had them about 6 months and they are falling apart badly on the toes. The glue is coming off the seams and the rubber is halfway off. They didn't even warranty them. No more Brooks for me.

        Comments about Beast:

This is the second pair of beasts that i have had that the sole peels off from the bottom of the shoe. Brooks was very good about replacing the first pair. Now the second pair is doing the same thing. I have not contacted Brooks about the second pair yet but feel i shouldnt have to everytime i buy an expensive pair of Brooks. They are not of the quality they should be for the cost.

I have bought three pairs of the Beast because I am A 330 pound O-lineman and need a shoe I can run and train hard with. I have to agree with the posts regarding the sole coming apart. All 3 of my Beasts have lost tread as I break them in and the flapping and catching as you walk or jog is very frustrating. I really wish they were more durable but realize someone my size and as active as I am will destroy shoes. Hoping the 4th pair is the charm.

                  Comments about Beast:

I run about twice a week; 5'7" stocky, muscular frame; 185-195 lbs. I felt I needed this hefty shoe, with my flat feet & over-pronation issue. However, I felt there was a lack of cushioning & am torn between wearing a less-supportive (but more cushioned) shoe vs. these. After a 4 mile run on trails today, my ankles were sore & my left calf hurt. I ran 4 miles a few weeks ago on the same trails in a pair of Asics Gel-Cumulus shoes & while they don't offer any support for overpronation and/or flat feet, I wasn't sore later. I think I would do better in a pair of Ravenna's or even Adrenaline's. I'm not sure if Brooks will let me return the Beasts, which were bought over 30 days ago, even though I didn't wear them until after Christmas (bought as a gift).
