I have been wearing Brooks Beasts since 1999. I was *VERY* nervous about the number of comments about the narrow toe box. I have worn a size 13 wide for over 15 years. I ordered the 13 EE, as I have every time, knowing I could return them if they were too narrow. I did *NOT* notice a difference in the toe box compared to the 2010 model. There *IS* a difference in the toe box from two generations ago (that one was slightly more boxy). If you've been holding onto your Beasts from few generations ago, the toe box is more narrow. If you have the 2010 model then, I didn't notice a difference in the toe box.

I'm 6'3", 300 lbs., I just completed Hal Higdon's 30:30 plan for 30 sessions and now starting the Couch to 5K (c25k) program. These shoes are invaluable to someone who requires maximum cushioning with motion control. I ice my shins/calves every evening and use "The Stick" roller twice a day, but new shoes are every bit as important.

I will purchase another set of Beasts in 300-500 miles.

I should have known better than to buy a shoe on-line. Unfortunately there are no retailers in the area that keep this in stock. I not able to not try on the shoe and discuss it with a knowledgeable sales person. I ordered the same size shoe as I wore in New Balance. This shoe is extremely tight around the front section of my foot, and does not appear to be stretching out at all. Very uncomfortable, and I will never buy another shoe on-line. I learned my lesson, hopefully no one else will make the same mistake I did.

Lives up to it's name "The Beast"

By DeerRunner

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Cushions Impact
  • Good Arch Support
  • Pronation Control

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Dry Weather

Tried many New Balance running shoes and they failed to provide the support needed. Running the Beast no leg, back or ankle pain. So far 300 miles on the shoes and they have not worn out yet. I'm 6ft, 255 pounds - no problems with the Beast.

    Disappointed by durability issues

    Pros

    • Comfortable
    • Cushions Impact
    • Good Arch Support
    • Good Traction
    • Pronation Control

    Cons

    • Wears Quickly

    Best Uses

    • Endurance Training
    • Walking

Have been loyal to the Beast for three or four pairs, but was disappointed when the stitching came loose near the top of the laces almost immediately. Half an inch or more of what the stitching was holding down now sticks out. Thankfully it only looks lousy and hasn't affected performance, really, but not what I had become used to from Brooks. Still overall the best big guy jogging/running shoe I've ever used.

I run 20-30 miles per week. These shoes have saved me over the last 6 years. I had torn meniscus and the Beast has allowed me to keep running. I can usually get 400 miles out of a pair before they break down. Good shoe, expensive, and high quality.

The shoe requires getting used to. I truly wish the shoe would be upper mesh (like the Nike Pegasus) to support the ideal runner without squeezing the feet which causes and creates discomfort. It does have great cushioning and support!

      Beast redesign makes cramped toebox

      Cons

I have worn Brooks for 30+ years - back to the Villanova model - and I love the Beast shoes, but this new redesigned model has reduced toebox space that cramps and restricts my feet. I wear size 13 4E. Read on another site that Brooks wanted to cater to marathon runners with this new Beast. If that is true they have thrown their loyal 'clydesdale' runners under the bus! Go back to the original Beast design, Brooks!
