The overall function of the shoe is great. I have been wearing them for ten years. I have tried other motion control shoes, being swayed by saving a few bucks and color choices, but have always come back. I do hate they are most expensive shoe on the market. They don't seem to be competitively priced. If the price is the price, you'd think there would be fun color choices, especially since other Brooks shoes comes in these fun colors and competitors also have these fun colors. Why does this shoe need to remain in the dark ages of looking more like an orthopedic shoe?

On the advice of my podiatrist, I've worn the Ariel for 4 years now. I used to LOVE the shoe. I started wearing the new model a year ago and am SO UNHAPPY!!! The shoe fits totally different. The narrower toe bed is very uncomfortable. Also, the heel fits higher in back. It rubs up against my ankle bone and pulls my sock down in the back. My podiatrist insists that I wear this shoe to correct several other problems I have (neuromas, wide feet, high instep, shredded achilles tendon). I've tried several different lacing techniques and nothing works. I've gotten used to the way the shoe hits my ankle bone, but the sock pull down is EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I've been scouring the web to find the older version of the shoe, but can't find my size. It's time for me to buy another pair of running shoes and I've made an appointment with my podiatrist to find another shoe.

          Comments about Ariel '12:

I have worn Brooks Ariel as my only shoe for every activity (even work) on advice of a podiatrist since 2005. But in 2012, the design of the shoe changed for the worse. The toe box is narrow so I must go up half a size (and then trip on my over-long shoes). The insole is flimsy and offers no arch support. The cushioning in the heel is poor. I am looking for a replacement shoe.

          Comments about Ariel '12:

I've been wearing the Brooks Ariel for about the last 5 or 6 years, and it was the most comfortable shoe for my plantar fasciitis. The changes to this version, though, caused me to send them back. The shoe feels too wide (I bought a regular width) and it doesn't feel as cushioned as before. Overall, it just didn't feel "right." I've started wearing the Glycerin and will look for the updated version of that shoe to see if it's better. Disappointed with the changes to Ariel.

            Comments about Ariel '12:

Sad when a company like Brooks makes changes to the design and quality of what had been a goods woman's shoe.

I am in constant motion, use to dance professionally, now i do serious walking , aerobics, and swimming so i fit for my age. Granted my feet are somewhat more sensitive than some because of my years on them BUT i have pretty happy with Brooks as my go to shoes for my long walks and aerobics until the last 2 seasons. They are uncomfortable , unresponsive, don't hold up well at all ( and i baby my shoes) My last years pair( 2013 )had a hole in the toe and the cushioning and arches were already completely broken down after a little less than a year. so i bought the new 2014 model , worse, i tried them for 3 weeks and my feet , knees and legs hurt so bad i returned them for another model , The Addiction which was worse. Do not expect anything of these shoes anymore. I have switched to another brand entirely.
